It's more than likely not something that's done as like a protection force, as much as just a police force. You know, keep people in line and such. As much as Skyloft seems relatively peaceful, it's always good to have some sort of group keeping peace. Especially when there dosen't seem to be a set ruler.

Also, I'm fairly certain they have the birds not just because why the hell not. They pretty much explain that the birds are a gift from Hylia, and everyone has their own bird who is tied to them. It's become a tradition and a way of life to learn how to fly the birds, not to mention that it's the only way to get anywhere at all. Skyloft is the main area, but like what if you wanted to go out and have a nice picnic with this sure swell gal? Fuck if you can get anywhere that isn't filled with people unless you got a bird.

Hence why I said they'd mostly be used for "vacationing" of sorts.

It still seems strange that Hylia gave the birds to them without there being much need for them. As much as the game hypes up the connection between the Skyloftians and their Loftwings, there isn't remarkably much to do with them, least of all the people in the Bazaar, who seem to do nothing but work during the day and go home at night.

And speaking of the Bazaar, is there really a high demand for potions, adventure items, upgrading said adventure items, and fortune telling (though at least that probably would be semi-useful to the average person)? None of those seem like thriving businesses in a mostly carefree society.

But hey, gameplay mechanics often clash with real world expectations...

Oh that's a good point about the birds when they're restricted to that one island; I hadn't thought of that.

My computer is being repaired, so I probably won't be able to make an edit for this one. :(

And also the only reason I fly around is to go to the Lumpy Pumpkin and smash all their pumpkins to get rupees. And occasionally that Bamboo Chop place

I thought the knights were there to protect Skyloft from those dragon insect things inside the Thunderhead?

The knights protect the town from the monsters that lurk every night, I assume. They also rescue people who fall off Skyloft, even at night.

The loftwings possibly served a greater purpose when the civilization was younger.

About the bazaar's items... that's actually pointed out in the game, as several of them off-handedly mention that you're their only customer.

No, the REAL question is... what's the deal with Beedle's airshop? It kinda made sense to have a mobile shop in his other 3 games, seeing as he actually went to other places and carried general use items, but here he just kinda pedals his guts out to float above Skyloft, peddling (lol) rare items at exorbitant prices before going home at the other side of the world. Why doesn't he just... I dunno, park his shop? Or at least make it easier to get into his shop without having a slingshot or some other long-ranged bludgeoning device? Not to mention, at least Spirit Tracks Beedle had the sense to use a balloon to keep himself airborne...

Also notice how bodaciously no one else on Skyloft seems to possess the means to call down Beedle's airship.
He didn't even have a possible customer until Link went to the surface.

people can throw rocks

I think the one kid you talk to about the shop says he's tried throwing rocks, but he's too young to throw dem roaks gud and he misses/never get enough height.

I think anyone old enough could call him down easy.

And the nerve he got to trapdoor you out of his shop if you don't buy anything.

Yes. Perfect.

If anyone wants this as a desktop, I can turn it into bodaciously any size image for you, without ruining the quality of the picture. State a resolution and I'll get it.

Yo, can I get both 1920x1080 and 1280x1024?

I'll have to validate my windows copy just for this

There has to be a bit of cropping on some sizes due to aspect ratio.

1280X1024
1920X1080

Just got to the dungeon where the first flame is obtained or whatever but yeah do those things even harm you? I tried running into them; they tend to just follow me around; even when I don't charge. It's like the seagulls in Windwaker.

EDIT; Yes they do.

Side note; am I the only one that enjoys purposefully not parachuting after jumping off my bird from a great distance? Link makes such an amusing SPLAT sound. Bloody hilarious.
