But what my friend did was decked Alistair out in fire resist and would shield him then throw in a giant fire explosion as well as a big fire area that burned for awhile. Everything but him was dead. someone could make a comic out of that.

i don't know if that trap would be strong enough to bite through his armor like that
swords and shit do next to nothing so what's a measly little trap
maybe they just have morrigan/wynne/the warden heal everything

Well, *puts on SCIENCE glasses*
the acceleration of the bear trap caused by its spring, as well as the sharp edges, can very well go through the armor. Imagine a shark or alligator. Their bites can easily tear off limbs.

except the objective of a trap would be to actually trap the animal, which is a little bit difficult if you sever their limbs and they drag themselves away where they die farther off somewhere from blood loss and other animals go to feast on their remains, thus rendering the trap useless for its intended purpose.
