That's Echidna from Fire Emblem Sword of Seals, or Roy's game. The only female hero (class) in the GBA Fire Emblem Series

The point is that the comic doesn't stand by itself. People who have prior experience with the games will get it. People who don't might understand the joke, but be left wanting.
I heartily enjoyed it. I can still sympathize for those who can't... Partly because they don't know the joys of the FE series, but also because it makes sense that they wouldn't be able to.

Well, the people who at least know the genre of Fire Emblem probably could guess that the big brawny pirate is probably going to be inaccurate, while the scrawny small headbanded Guy looks like an agile unit.
So... Maybe all you need to get it is to be genre savvy with stuff like d&d?

Google is your friend. She knows all and sees all. Though sometimes you need to ask the right questions and have enough patience.
Also the images aren't animated until you expand and preview them. That may be an issue you might be having.
