I thought that people believed Ike replaced Roy, since most of the other "replacements" were from within their own series, like Mewtwo-Lucario and Young Link-Toon Link

The thing with the whole "Lucario replacing Mewtwo" debacle was that they were going to put Mewtwo into Brawl (There's evidence of this on the Brawl disc), it just that they cut him out due to time constraints.

I think it is only because they are two psychic pokémons, with a similar special attack.

You can't really say they were going to put Mewtwo in Smashbros.

Yes, there are files related to Mewtwo hidden in the game data, but it is also the case for Roy and Doctor Mario : http://smashbros.neoseeker.com/wiki/Forbidden_Seven

Yes, "Mewtwo's data includes a "Congratulations" picture for clearing Classic Mode with him, in addition to sound files that are presumably voice clips", but those sounds can only be a test for example.

Okay, they probably though at one point to include Mewtwo in SSBB, but you can't tell at which point they decided to not include him, and maybe it was early in development.

(But maybe there is more than this, like an interview of Sakurai for example)

Lucario is Fighting/Steel, not Psychic.

Lucario is basically Goku, and Ki is indistinguishable from magic. Incidentally, I gave aura shpere, dragon pulse, extreme speed, and a steel beam move I can't seem to find on the wiki just to make him as Goku-like as possible.
Looks like it might be flash cannon and bulbapedia doesn't have a gif of the move from XY so I don't know. Also too lazy to boot the game up and check.

Edit: So I couldn't just leave well enough be, it was flash cannon. also replaced extreme speed with shadow claw, so he's less of a dbz character.

It's a joke that started in this very old comic from 2006: http://www.awkwardzombie.com/index.php?page=0&comic=111506

Also this one from 2008 made the same joke: http://www.awkwardzombie.com/index.php?page=0&comic=031008

Then there was this one where it was cemented as a running gag: http://www.awkwardzombie.com/index.php?page=0&comic=102708

This comic from last year was the most recent: http://awkwardzombie.com/index.php?page=0&comic=110314

i never noticed that katie's art-style actually got worse and MORE cartoony over time.

worse isn't quite the right word. worse as in less detailed. but i think it's more pleasing to the eye.

This is kind of what I meant when I said that "Roy's art style devolved along with his temper". Katie's art has become more and more cartoony with over-the-top faces and poses. Along with that, characters' personalities also became increasingly one-dimensional to the point where they are nearly parodies of their former selves. Roy, I think, was most affected by this shift in tone, as he's now just become this angry gnome...

That is not to say all this is necessarily bad, but I can't yet decide how well I like the 'new Roy' as compared to the old one...

Good point, he came back and still is angry about everything. Doesn't really makes sense.

...He's angry that no one is recognizing or appreciating his return, obviously. That's been the entire point of this story.

The thing is that she's been telling this single joke for ten years. This joke has been run so far into the ground that the fact that she's telling the joke is, itself, a joke. A much funnier joke, at this point. And so, yeah, I'm sure that the self-parody is intentional. She's just making fun of the way she's written Roy as this artificially tortured character, and making fun of the absurd level of anticipation that she's inadvertantly built up around this event, and making fun of how dramatic it ought to be within the context of the single longest running storyline of Awkward Zombie. I'm enjoying it.

Next week: Roy finally gets to participate in a Smash fight. He is killed.

awkward zombie's roy arc will be comparable to berzerk's boat arc or any other arc that goes on too long

Hired Emblem (Part 11) - Roy is confused when Lyn appears in a fight and considers the nature of his own birth
Hired Emblem (Part 27) - Roy goes to order an Amiibo of himself, only to find someone ordered all of them. Cut to Roy Koopa being confused when he finds he ordered Roy Swordfighter Amiibo and not Amiibo of himself
Hired Emblem (Part 72) - Roy goes to have cereal, but there's no milk left. Cut to all the animal Smash characters lapping it up from a saucer.
Hired Emblem (Part 103) - Roy waits on the phone for customer service on a toaster he bought and is dissatisfied with his waiting time
Hired Emblem (Part 250) - The site is officially rebranded as Awkward Roymbie. No new comics, but all previous comics are redrawn to feature Roy.
Hired Emblem (Part 1000) - Katie officially buys the rights to the character of Roy from Intelligent Systems, who have no need for it now that they made soft core doujin games with light strategy elements full time
Hired Emblem (Part ?) - Heat Death of the universe. Revealed to be caused by Roy charging his Flare Blade from Melee's release date up and letting go of B

The heat death of the universe is when the temperature becomes constant throughout the entire universe.

Mark your calendars for maximum entropy in Image years.

I basically have turned Ridley into poor and stressed out individual who wanders into other worlds looking for acceptance.
