Bug versus psychic and dark i think i can explain.

Many types of bugs (bees, and ants specifically) have a 'hive mind' consisting of billions of little minds combined on a single task.
Ask a psychic to read one person's mind.. sure.. a thousand? yeah.. no
darkness is about trickery and misdirection, insects with hive minds, and just in general are unable to be tricked in the same way we are.

My explanation for poison doing half damage against psychic was the psychic could read the mind of the assassin attempting to poison him.
