I did look that up - I have a dictionary of names and their origins near my desk.

I like the look of 'Shamus' over 'Seamus', plus if people don't know how to pronounce 'Seamus' properly (i.e. see-MUS instead of shay-MUS) the link with 'Samus' isn't as strong.

So I went with the 'anglicised' version (Shamus) instead of the original, historical spelling which was indeed 'Seamus'.

I considered everything very carefully.
