yes i know.

but i am just saying that if we're going to be so literal about it, no language is purely one country's own language.

none that isn't long dead, anyway

That's silly, just because you were inspired by someone or something doesn't mean that he, she or it deserves all the credit for what you've made.

Saying that English comes from England isn't "being literal", it's called English. It's pretty obvious that the language as we know it originated from there, like how French comes from France and not Rome. Sure, they got their roots from other languages, but I've heard from a communication teacher that humans have some kind of instinctive grammar embedded in their brains anyway, which would explain why every language is so similar structurally speaking.

Well that's different.
But the original spelling still came from England, so mocking British spelling or claiming that American spelling is standard everywhere in the world but in Great Britain is pretty silly, and I think that's what Stranaton was referring to.

actually, when the revolutionary war occured, there was no standard spelling. some people in britain used "practice", some in the colonies/states used "practise". so neither was correct at the time.

Australia and Canada tend to follow British English conventions for spelling as far as I'm aware. British English seems to be more of a standard worldwide than American English, despite the larger amount of people living in the United States.

I want to know what happened with words like 'pants' 'chips' and 'fanny' - because they mean different things in America and Britain.

Especially that last one, that's a doozy!

fanny [ˈfænɪ]
n pl -nies Slang
1. Taboo Brit the female genitals
2. Chiefly US and Canadian the buttocks
[perhaps from Fanny, pet name from Frances]

"Trousers" are entirely too silly.

Chips... Well, fries aren't really chippable. They just kind of mush. Potato chips chip, and are quite crisp.

It's a wordfilter.

Aust.ralia filters to Ausfailia.

But it's okay, though. Just the proletariats with a sense of humor.

Everyone knows the US sucks the most.

After many tries I have found out how to bypass the filters once more.
