I think he's implying that your criticism of webcomics would have more solid grounding if you yourself have written and/or drawn your own webcomics...

...because you would then know first hand just how much time and effort is put into these things.

I'd agree all the examples given are pretty bad (barring AZ obviously).

I don't like Penny Arcade personally - too much focus on Gabe and the other guy, not enough on videogames.

That's just... stupid. I didn't even criticize Powerup. And that defense is lame any way you look at it. :?

It's pretty bad. also a megaman sprite comic. only it has nothing to do with megaman. and only one is just a recolor. and there's no humor or good writing.

Not really, it just means that if you've made webcomics yourself your opinions on other webcomics have more authoritah - because you know it from both sides (as a writer/illustrator and reader).

Don't get me wrong though, bad webcomics are bad.

You all want to know what the world's worst webcomic is? I'll tell you what the world's worst webcomic is! It's the world's worst webcomic.

And let me tell ya something, the guy who does the comic looks just like his comic counterpart.

Some people would tell you PolkOut, but I'd personally disagree. *shrug*

Both NSFW.

Hey this is Dumok the artist and I just wanted to say thank you for linking to my webcomic! I appreciate any press I can get!

See: http://www.vgcats.com/cadaprilfools/

Why?
Lets see:
Four panel set up.
One angle (We see two characters straight on.)
Crappy slick college art (see http://www.homestarrunner.com/sbemail181.html)
It was made after the site was which is a HUGE pet peeve of mine. "HAY GUISE WE MAED WEBCOMIC."

I still love how ZP's Yahtzee found his girlfriend could draw Ctrl+Alt+Del-style with amazing accuracy and had her draw a parody comic he wrote (Yahtzee and Buckley have a long-standing rivalry.)
