That Ridley comic was genius! How do you guys come up with all those ideas?

Or a lot of health bars in games change from green to red when on low health.

In Super Metroid and Metroid: Zero Mission, Ridley changed color as he got hurt with red always being the last color he became. This means that in this comic edit Ridley is taking damage. E3 stress can be a real killer.

Nope, in the metroid games, Ridley changes colours when he loses health. The more health Samus has taken off of him, the different shades of colour he changes. Hence the joke.

Not actually Ridley, it was the X parasite turning into a clone of Ridley, by absorbing it's leftover DNA samples that was being contained in the laboratory. But regardless it still took damage the same.

My goal in games with these awful sounds was to prevent them from happening so that I could keep playing in the living room (it had the big TV).

Why not just turn down the volume or mute the game when that happens?

Because it would break up the flow, ruining your momentum. Likely causing whatever it is the sound is warning about to occur. Also, anything that requires you to make an extra effort to avoid being slightly annoyed or considerate to those around you is probably a bad system.

I say that as someone who was never really annoyed at Navi's "HEY! HEY! HEY! Listen. *Something you probably already knew* *moment of peace* HEY!..." And never to the point of having violent fantasies regarding shutting her up, but could still understand other people's issues.
