I know the game would never do that in a way that would make you lose out on something actually critical to completing the game, but what if I missed a single line of dialog by not looking at that potted plant?!

I feel the same way, especially since the Ace Attorney dialogue is really great.

plot twist: it's a groundhog day loop. they were investigating a murder scene and because athena wouldn't let apollo look at the potted plant he murdered athena under an alias and they're investigating the murder

i dunno that just popped up while reading and i neither have the capacity nor patience to actually make an edit for that

I face this compulsion too... I always figure out the contradiction in testimonies when it pops up the first time but STILL I feel the need to press every statement. Also I must be very careful not to pick correct answers the first time or else I will have to save scum just to go back and pick the wrong one. I blame the writers for making almost every misc statement or wrong answer a gold mine for hilarious dialogue...

Guilty as charged here as well.

You know what would really throw players for a loop? Investigating a ladder (that's a stepladder, Nick) would actually be the clue to push the story along. As in, since I'm sure most players are fully aware of the stepladder (that's a ladder, Polly) gag, I figure they'd check it first... and be greeted by story progression without getting to check any of the other things to see in that room.

It'd almost be as bad as having a device to reach an area taller than one's self in an area and have absolutely no investigate option or reference to it at all (I may be misremembering, but in one of the later games there's a ladder/stepladder (what's the difference, Mr. Edgeworth Sir?) that's referenced, but not by investigating it - so the series is almost guilty of this.)

Guilty. I try to check everything, and I've been whisked away to the story after only checking one thing before. Sometimes I just reload (I save a lot) just to go back and see what dialogue I missed.
