Which is why Abigail is best wife.

Sometimes the dislikes are pretty silly. Why does Robin dislike pine tar and oak resin? She's a carpenter, those are pretty regularly used items for her. I guess the whole thing is that they want a completed item, not something that can help them get things done. How shallow. The best gifts are the ones that let you accomplish great things, not the ones that involve instant gratification! Shame on you, villagers! This is why none of you accomplish anything of value no matter how many years the protagonist lives in your town!

She only likes a specific off-shore brand of pine tar and oak resin that she special-orders from a catalogue. She considers anything else an insult.

Edit: It's been too long since I posted a horrifying Nowi edit, so here you go.

Nowi also has a one-track mind regarding gifts! If there's one thing she clearly loves, it's completely inappropriate outfits that make everyone else very uncomfortable. (Despite the mix-up, Katie probably just accidentally reached A-rank with her.)

Thank you, LockeZ, for putting everyone who viewed this thread on a watchlist. /sarcasm

I might consider picking up Stardew Valley. I like management games and I enjoy comparing Katie's portrayals to the actual characters in games. Only question is, is it real-time like Animal Crossing or are there in-game days like Rune Factory? Cause I can't wait a whole real world day for a tree to grow.

Apparently he can also consume an entire bottle of pine tar in a single gulp.

It is not real time like Animal Crossing. Each day is about 12 minutes long. When you enter a menu the game time pauses. When you exit the game the game does not keep going.

So, what's the appeal of this game over, say, Harvest Moon?

I played through Harvest Moon: Magical Melody when I was younger (and replayed it just once, more recently), and I've never had the urge to play another game in the series, as I felt like I'd already gotten the full experience. What would I get from playing Stardew Valley?

Also, quick note - I'm gonna try to do a couple of quick edits in the future. Its just that just about the only time I've spent on art recently has been put toward robotics or school.

A goodly chunk of the appeal is that it's a PC game, and one with relatively low system requirements.

Harvest Moon might have been a thing for quite a long time, but it hasn't really ever made it to the PC market, so there's an untapped reservoir of people who would like a Harvest Moon game but haven't ever been able to get one.

On a surface level, Stardew Valley is just like a Harvest Moon game (particularly, it bears a great deal of similarity to Harvest Moon DS, what with the combat in the mines as an option and such). Practically speaking, it fixes just about every major frustration point that any given HM game has. If you only play it superficially, then it's not meaningfully different. If you're the sort who actually gets into farming games, it's a massive improvement over Harvest Moon games.

I registered just to point out that pine tar is in fact edible and delicious. It is added (in small quantities) as a flavouring to some Finnish candies. And I for one really like their taste.
It is also used for its pleasant scent where it's mixed with water thrown on the sauna stove heater thing.
