Samus should know that ice is always extremely slippery and not at all a good material to make tiny platforms out of. This is what they teach you in videogame kindergarten, come on.

This just in, Katie draws Samus better than anyone ever.

I think someone has been spending too much time with Mario at the Smash apartment.

Also, while it is called the ice beam, could it be possible that the beam actually slows the passage of time for whatever object it hits? Because, if the beam froze whatever it hit, then wouldn't the creature also fall since it's flying?

No matter how much Sub Zero or Samus shows you, you cannot freeze gravity itself in ice.

Well the enemy itself is already defying gravity sooo...
The original Metroid art of them, I believe they're called Geemers (?) has them flying around via rocket propulsion. But there's a similar critter in Prime that floats by magnetism and that'll work for me.
I mean how else is Samus supposed to traverse a sheer cliff wall?

I was going to link a page of image results for "Anime physics", but the results quickly became about poking fun at...jiggle physics. So, I'll link this instead: 100 Rules of Anime

I think they're supposed to be Rippers.

Since she's traveling in a 2d plane, just imagine it's getting stuck to the background.

Depends how it's flying. These things don't have wings, they just hover slowly back and forth. Maybe they have a biological antigravity ability or some other sci-fi nonsense, rather than flying the way birds and insects on Earth fly. Or maybe they're held in place by tiny wires attached to the ceiling. Or maybe camoflauged birdmen wearing outfits that are the exact same color as the background are holding them in the air.

I love this comic for several reasons.

1- Usually Katie does games that are currently popular, it's cool to see her go back to nostalgic stuff.
2- The joke is incredibly simple. Like how I found many of the very early comics. This could fit right in there and no-one would know the difference (ignoring art improvement), it just feels nostalgic in so many ways <3

Location: That.. is actually a VERY good question.. Help?
I saw whooping and all I could think about was Zoidberg.. now how the heck is THAT gonna work for an edit. CHALLENGE GIVEN.

http://metroid.wikia.com/wiki/Ripper

They are indeed called rippers. And the jet-propelled ones are Ripper 2's. And now, to lurk for about 6 weeks once again.
