The trick is to never use Pokemon Amie. That way they're miserable, but dependable.

Or... you know... you could always have a pokemon with false swipe in your party. But who does that, right? :V

But it's exactly when you don't have false swipe is when the shiny will appear at all. It's called Murphy's Law.

Back when I played Cockfighting Society, I had a Scizor with False Swipe in my party at all times to prevent the critical-faint issue. When I told my friends about it, they looked at me weird as I willing turned my Scyther into a Scizor and kept False Swipe. They figured letting a monster keep an attack that wouldn't kill would be terrible for one-on-one fights.

Because, you know, now that the creature is lying right in front of you, unconscious and unable to escape, there's no way you could capture it.
