Aren't microwaves designed to only be able to heat stuff up when they're closed?

Yes, but it's amazing how you can alter something with just a screwdriver and a hammer.

Or with a kitchen knife and some patience, if you're desperate. And BTW I don't think microwaving yourself is healthy, so don't try it.
