I was reading the comics from the beginning and came across this one:

http://www.awkwardzombie.com/comic1-070907.php

I've never played Fire Emblem and I knew how the comic was going to end after the second panel. So Katie, when you said "I realized shortly after drawing this that the joke was atually pretty inaessable to just about eeryone who hasn't played Fire Emblem", you where being overly critical on yourself.

Anyone that has played WoW, GuildWars, D&D, and almost any other game including any of the Final Fantasy games can get the joke.

Oh look!
Another sappy feel-good thread!

I love these. They make my day so much brighter.

I wouldn't say it was based on RPG's in general. It's more like all the strategy RPG's like Fire Emblem, Shining Force, and Final Fantasy Tactics that practically require the healers to heal every daisies thing to effectively level up. Even having them clean up wounded enemies can backfire, especially in the case of Shining Force.

It's like grinding EXP, and just as boring, time consuming, and mindlessly repetitive as any other type of farming/grinding.

It seemed weird to me that she thought that only people who play Fire Emblem would get it, yet I've never played Fire Emblem and got the joke by the second panel.

I can't remember which RPG it was, but I remember playing one that you had to grind each skill, and the healing took the longest. Could it have been an Elder Scrolls game?

That's the first thing that popped into my mind when you said that, though there's quite easily other RPGs like that out there. But, where you have to grind each skill not only to level up the skill but to level up yourself definantely sounds like Elder Scrolls.

The only tactical RPG I remember where a healer healing DOESN'T help the character level up is the original Disgaea. And that shit rustled me off, because it was impractical to send any of those healers into combat against beings of the same level as them in any form (even with ranged weapons), so you had to grind even more on previous, earlier maps. Disgaea 2 thankfully corrected this, though, of course, either way, Disgaea is pretty much the premier Strategy JRPG for grinding.

JRPG?

Anyway the RPG I was thinking about, each skill needed the same amount points to level up, but healing actions only gave you a 1/4 of the points, so it took four times longer.

I'm not certain on the acronym, but I believe it stands for Japanese RPG
