Clearly, the ketchup was meant to be eaten.

Took me a couple of reads, then I giggled out loud.

And I too approve of this "Otacutie", or as I questionably spell, "Cutacon".

What you're supposed to do is throw it on the floor to break it and leave a pool of ketchup, then lie down on said puddle. This will make the nearby guard (somehow) think you've died, whereupon he unlocks your cell door to check.

Thanks for explaining, I would not have guessed that was the intended use of a ketchup bottle!
Without context, I thought Otacon did that "hide the key in the food" trick for breaking people out of prisons, and the joke was that Snake ate the key.

Katie, have you ever read The Last Days of Foxhound? I feel like you'd really enjoy that. I mean, if you can overlook the fact that it was written before MGS3, so it's probably full of plot holes now, but whatever.

I can't recommend Last Days of Foxhound enough! I read most of it before I ever played a Metal Gear game (not counting a bit of MG1 at a friend's place, which was frustrating and brief).

I guess I mentioned it in a previous thread, but briefly, it's a prequel story to MGS1 centered on Liquid and team. "What was the Foxhound team like before Shadow Moses... and why did they rebel??"
It manages to involve a lot of events from MGS3 eventually, and really goes into the character and motivations of what are otherwise... delightfully odd caricatures. Having read the comic first, I feel like MGS1&3 had more impact for me.

MGS2 also, since Dead Cell show up (still loyal at this point). Including a, uh, character who was cut... for um, some reason...
(Yet they kept Vamp... Not that I'm complaining, he is pretty. badass.)

I know we don't need anybody else saying this, but I also really enjoyed The Last Days of Foxhound. It was quite a funny comic, and would make for an interesting explanation of why certain things in Metal Gear Solid 1 worked the way they did and stuff.

Read the description, she references it there. She's read it.

It's strange how nobody mentioned it before, but The Last Days of FOXHOUND is a great webcomic offering an(unofficial) look at some of inner workings of main MGS1 antagonists.
It has MS Paint level of art, but the story is great!

This really is in the game. You can open your inventory and eat the ketchup! Instead of being grateful for the snacks Snake is simply oblivious to whatever Otacon's plan was.
