Don't worry, you're not. I just can't pay constantly for online games. n fact, the only thing for an online game that was paid for is my Dragon Amulet on DragonFable.

Same here.

That, and because MMO's bore me quickly. D=

I'm thinking about getting a membership for AdventureQuest, too.

Blegh. Just do a simple cost analysis.

You buy an average console videogame for $59.99, and this videogame you play it for 40 hours.

Okay now you have an online game that is asking you to pay $14.99 a month. Are you planning to play it for at least 10 hours each month?

If you answered yes, then HEY GUESS WHICH ONE IS THE BETTER DEAL?

People get seriously stupid when a company asks for a monthly fee to play online, but don't think twice about dumping $50-60 on a game they only play for a relatively small amount of time.

Indeed. However, WoW's going to look mighty expensive when everything turns $9.99

Yep, it's going to happen.

Sure, if you buy games for full, brand-new price. I've only ever gotten two games at full price, and both were for my birthday. I don't think I've spent more than £6 (about $10 US) on a PC game since...well, ever (except for that collector's edition of STALKER, for which I paid the princely sum of £15). Although it helps that I'm patient enough wait a few years and buy mostly second-hand or during sales.

EDIT: Also, when's the last time you paid $60 for a 5 year old PC game?

It's an even better deal in places like China. Because most people play MMOs in Lan cafes, they don't pay for the initial outlay of the game or expansions, they also don't pay for subscriptions, instead buying timecards that they can use for multiple games from the company they bought the card from.

Unfortunately, WoW's 5 million Chinese customers haven't been able to play for a couple of months due to disputes with distribution. Wrath of the Lich King hasn't been released there either due to content concerns. I don't think I'd wait that long to play WoW when there were other options available, they're going to lose a huuuge playerbase over this.
