Dunno why, but the fact the very next thread is a bot thread cracks me up.

This is definitely alarming, especially given that the other two tests were fairly public. The most information we seem to have on this is that China and the US were warned that it was going to happen, but not told when.

Turns out it was their third test. I wonder what will happen now.

All those comments on the page pertaining to assassinating North Korea's leader - or just outright nuking the whole of North Korea; I have to say I find those kinds of comments as worrysome as North Korea's nuclear tests.

I have to believe that North Korea will never actually launch a nuke at the US - and that all of this is just posturing.

NPT aside, North Korea must feel intimidated by all the nuclear-armed countries telling it it can't have nuclear weapons of its own - I think it's just North Korea trying to assert itself.

I agree with the NPT - but at the same time it also means the nuclear-armed countries (UK, US, China, Russia, France) have a major, unfair advantage when it comes to bossing other countries around - can those countries really expect to get away with pointing their big, nuclear powered-weapons at a little country like North Korea and not expect North Korea to stand up for itself and point its own sparkly brand-new nuclear weapons back?

It's all a big mess - I just have to hope that nobody does anything stupid.

Basic common sense kind of rules that when you fire a nuclear missile, MAD will fuck with them quite chronically.. Well, not fuck, really, but maybe a bit more of totally annihilating them. People in the US have nothing to fear, as are people in really any country with nuclear weapons (sorry, Africa). If the Cold War has taught us anything, it's that MAD is quite an ironic acronym.

But I have to agree with the point that small countries are powerless to stand up to other countries with nuclear weapons. How can they mutually assure destruction if they are nuked if they don't have the nuclear weapons to do it?

It's not the US I fear is in immediate danger now, it's South Korea. The estimated payload is apparently 6-7 kilotons, and while that's only half of Little Boy's payload, it's enough to do tremendous damage and long-lasting fallout depending on detonation height, accompanied by an enormous loss of human life.

I have to admit that reading this made a cold fear crawl over my skin.

And here's the thing. If North Korea loses its shit and attacks South Korea then the United States will go to war with them because they're our ally. And if they used a nuclear bomb to attack then chances are our military is not going to fuck around and we'll send in a shit-ton of drones to bomb them back to the stone age.

Completely forgot about this country's drones. A squadron of remote-controlled death machines is pretty intimidating, especially when you think about how if you shoot one down, you're not necessarily doing any damage to that nation's war effort. You haven't taken a life or done any psychological damage to their forces; you've just shot down an expensive machine. Actually, in terms of military hardware, an MQ-1 Predator Drone isn't that expensive; it costs half as much as an M1 Abrams tank to manufacture.

I don't think North Korea is crazy/stupid enough to actually fire a nuclear bomb at a country, if their military leaders have any rational thought, they'd realize the world would gang up on them and tear them to shreds, even China was like "No, guys, stop testing nukes, please."

Exactly. The cult of personality laid out around Kim Il-Sung is clear enough indication of that.
