Rule: You may only post in this thread if you've worked out today.

I figured since we have a thread to keep us from failing all our classes and get educated, we could use a thread to keep us (sort of) healthy as well. I know I could use some motivation. Qualifying for the rule is simple, you just have to have done some physical exercise outside of what you regularly do (walking/cycling to school, physical labor (yes I know that that is many times more tiring then working out but that's not the point of this thread). Just drop on your floor and do some push-ups and you're gold.
This thread is also for talking about dieting and eating healthy in general, since you can't do one without the other.
Some tips:
- try and do some small quick exercises every single day, that doesn't take much time and can help as much as one big workout a week and it's easier to train yourself to follow a regular schedule that you don't drop out of
- find friends to work out with
- if you're short on time or lazy, go for intensive short exercises instead of long ones, you'll get bored less easily (but longer ones are better to train endurance)
- put on some music! Try to use something energizing. I find stuff that's energizing but relaxed at the same time works best. I use some old-school hiphop/funk stuff I have for breakdancing.
- keep hydrated, make sure to have a water bottle on hand
- sore muscles mean your exercises are having effect, but be careful not to strain them (if you're already in somewhat decent shape this won't happen unless you go crazy though)
- try and do lots of different exercises that focus different muscles to keep a balanced body

Just did some dumbbell exercises, a few push-ups and sit-ups and while taking a breather thought of making this thread.

Edit: Here is a small database of exercises aimed at specific muscle groups with and without different equipment

I fully support this incentive, as working out has helped me lose 60kg of weight. I had help from a friend in this, and I'll always be grateful for the support I got from him. We motivated each other to keep going to the gym, run a few kilometers when the weather was good and just generally make something out of ourselves.

Today I went to the gym, despite the heat, and worked out the muscles in my back.

I tend to start by stretching in a repertoire I've built up over the years, working from top to bottom, front to back. Then I always do at least 2 exercises for my stomach and at least 1 for my lower back. On days when I work out my back I tend to do an extra exercise for my lower back as well. It's very important to know what you're doing and what positions to use when training this area of your body, as it's easy to strain something.

My general tip for staying fit, aside from the ones Syobon already mentioned, is to not worry too much about the way you look when you enter the gym or go outside. There's always someone there who'll think they look better than you and at least as many who'll think they look worse. You're going there because you want to be fit, not because they need to think you are.
Some people simply aren't built in a way that makes it easy to have a six pack, others have one by doing 2 sit-ups. You don't need to look like a superhero to be fit, as the sort of thing they tend to show in popular media is the way bodybuilders want to look. Bodybuilders are not a symbol of health, they are a symbol of being very specific in the way they shape their body and dedicating themselves to this.

Being fit is not just being able to run 15 kilometers in an hour, or bench pressing 150 kg. Being fit is living in a healthy body, taking care of yourself and feeling well. Working out is a way to help you with this.

Going to start lifting weights and doing calisthenics today after only doing aerobics for a while. My dad made me a list of things I should do which includes the amount of reps and sets and which order I should do them in. How many days a week should I be doing these, though?

Also, if you don't have a lot of time on your hands, but still want to do something, this is good:

Honestly, if you're lazy and/or short on time, lifting weights is probably the best idea. Unless you've been training for years and/or roid it up more than 45 to 60 (at most) minutes of the big compound lifts (squats, deadlifts, overhead press, bench press) every other day will be more than enough to see and feel some serious change - more would actually be harmful.

I've been sorting out my diet since late February, started doing calisthenics and dumbbell stuff in in March and decided that low-intensity stuff was boring early in April; been on a barbell routine (basically starting strenth) for 1 1/2 months. Lost quite a bit of weight in the months before (though I've regained ~5lbs already, next to general recomposition), which might not have been ideal but oh well I look a lot better already. Eating and cooking lots of good food is hard work though, hah.

Really, if you want to make progress on calisthenics it's gonna take a) more time and b) a lot of learning to target every section of your body.

Once a week I go out to do yoga not only for the notworkout workout but to keep myself from geting stressed.

I found that after a couple of months of doing it I got really strong and agile without even noticing it.

Though recently I pulled my back so I haven't been able to do it for 2 weeks, but I'll get back into it next week.

i go the gym once a week for an hour so i don't become all flabby, but tbh i don't think it has that much of an effect because it's only 1 hour, aha. In school however I do 1 hour of physical exercise (although it's more like 40 minutes with varying activities) so that's helps a little bit. I'm not fitness guru though.

I do about half an hour of light exercise pretty much everyday, need to work on my diet though. I eat a lot of stuff that has no substance and is super processed. Mainly because it can be cheap and tends to last longer than proper fresh food.

Also proper meals take time to prepare.

I think being healthy is something we all know the basics of. But it's something that takes discipline.

Yeah, I don't feel the need to do cardio on the side because I spent at least one hour on my feet anyways - walking around on campus, walking the dog, using public transportation. Just got home from the gym, about to fry "some" steaks / make "some" pasta. And by "some" I mean a whole lot.

I rode my bike and swam today

I've been swimming ever since I was four and then stopped when I was nine and got really fat until I picked it up again.

So it works pretty well for me.

Went for a walk today, did some arm stuff two days ago and I'm going to do that again tomorrow. Considering doing some crunches later.

Played some two-touch football today (which evolved into tackle in a few minutes).
Feels like I got hit by a bus
