So, we have a thread for pictures of your trip, and we have threads where one can express if the trip made you pop flyin' or sad. Now, we have a thread for actually tips and tricks, questions regarding planning, places to see, where to shop, or anything about your dream vacation. It doesn't matter if it's on the other side of the world or if it is just the city next to yours, geographic discrimination is the worst.

Except when it comes to Sweden. It's okay then.

I am travelling to New York in one and a half week from today. I've visited Manhattan before, so I've been at all the big tourist locations. Now I seek for obscure, niche stores. Those places with items of rarity. For example, clothes styled as if they were from a different era, antique books, gadgets (aka. gizmos, whozits, whatzits, thingamabobs), etc.

Any tips?

Come to Troy/Albany and see the vast nothingness

And some cool antique shops and vintage clothing stores and awesome restaurants

Also it's a short drive from Vermont which is very pretty and has good skiing

Also I'm here

I'm something of a fan of road trips. If it weren't for the myriad of health issues involved I'd seriously consider taking up a trucking job for awhile.

Satellite radio is pretty much a necessity though. Made one trip with it, found it to be amazing for not falling asleep at the wheel.

Sometime soon, maybe next year or something, I'm hoping on taking a trip to San Francisco.
But that probably won't happen. Maybe we'll visit New York or something.

Most of the gift shops in Chinatown NYC are shit.

But if you want the best food you've ever had, go to Nice Green Bo.

http://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&cp=8&gs_id=r&xhr=t&q=nice+green+bo&gs_upl=&bav=on.2,or.r_gc.r_pw.r_qf.,cf.osb&biw=1440&bih=698&um=1&ie=UTF-8&sa=N&tab=wl

It has the ambiance of an operating room, but the food is unbelievable. Get the dumplings.

Xab, he's not coming to America to eat Chinese food.

He probably wants to eat American cuisine, like sushi and and Mexican food.

Why would he go there when he could see the grey skies and concrete buildings of scenic Binghamton? We were labeled as the 5th most depressing city in the country you know.

Won't argue about Vermont though. Easily one of my favorite places to be. I spent a year living in Burlington and it was just the best. If anyone ever plans on visiting Upstate NY or Burlington, VT, I'm your guy for cool shit to see and do (although your options for Upstate NY are fairly limited lol.)

So if anyone ever comes to San Diego I have one phrase for you:

TAKE THE OLD TOWN TROLLEY TOUR

It is honestly the best way to see all the cool stuff in San Diego and a shitload of interesting history.

TRYGVE

I WANT TO MEEEEET YOOOOUUUUUUUU
I LIVE ABOUT A TWO HOUR OR LESS TRAIN RIDE FROM NYC

SOBBU

I think you're best bet would be to just explore! Although I've visited NYC tons of times before, I don't have many places set in mind. You can find a lot of hidden treasures just by searching around.

Make sure to go into empty dark alleyways and get mugged. You'll likely see Spiderman that way!
