It's that day of the quadannual... cycle thing. So yeah.

Discuss the election results, voting, news, state results, reactions, dicks, and anything related to who is going to be the next American Waifu until the end of the world in December.

Green party isn't invited because they have cooties.

If Obama wins re-election I'm going to have to sit through two weeks of a household claiming he's gonna go Muslim terrorist and declare martial law so he can be the SUPREME RULER of the United States.

I hope Obama wins.

even though i'm not voting because i honestly don't like either candidate enough to support them, i secretly hope obama wins if only solely because i know it'll piss off everyone in my church and make them believe the world is going to end because gays can still get married or something

Doesn't really matter who I vote for because of two words: electoral college. I live in a blue state, which means if I don't vote for Obama my vote is wasted. Kind of a fucked up system where people try telling others their vote matters. Maybe in a swing state it does.

It can matter. It won't decide who'll be president, but the popular vote DOES decide how much people get upset about it.

Don't you guys have some sort of system where even the losing party has power depending on how much votes they got relative to the others?

Nope. Winner take all. And the one who loses a Presidential election will never run again, no matter how good or bad they are. They kind of just fade out.

Only thing like that is if congressional seats change hands.

Like, say Romney won by a slim margin just because of the electoral college, but the blue/swing/possibly even more liberal parts of red (like Central Texas) states pushed harder and put in a lot more democrats into congress.

In that sense, it balances out, since we'd have a bigger democrat presence in the congress and a republican president. However, as far as the presidency goes, it's all about getting a majority of the electoral college.

And if we want anything accomplished ever, we'd actually be better off hoping that one side sweeps the presidency and the congress. any time they're run by opposite parties, we get bullshit and stalemates out the booty (see the last 2 years).

Congress is a whole lot more of a wild card though. The average American has no fucking clue what their congressman has done or is trying to do.
