Well duh, I mean t-WHAT THE HELL IS WITH THE SIZE OF YOUR AVATAR?!

*ahem*

Well duh, I mean think about it: you'd only use a self help book if you thought you were enough of a loser to need one. This results in people thinking they're losers simply everytime they read it. Its a Catch 22, but for stupid people.

But you can see where the problems are. Like above, people will only tell themselves "I am a likeable person" only if they're currently think they're not, resulting in the opposite effect. And thinking about the negative about yourself is generally more helpful than thinking about the positive because, lets face it, everyone's life is filled with illusions of grandeur, both good and bad: trying to come up with things that you're almighty at fails because there's really not a lot they are, while thinking of things they're absolutely pathetic at makes them feel better because, once again, there's not much they do truly suck at.

I'm not entirely sure why they felt the need to do a research on that though. Maybe to point out that self-help authors are GODDAM IDIOTS IN THE FIRST PLACE! But with statistics.

I think the reason saying positive things about themselves makes depressed people feel worse is because it feels patronizing. I suppose that's kind of obvious, though...
