It's still too vague.

Is this the FCD they've been talking about?

It sounds amazing. A technical marvel. A revolution in the making. Until you realise that, wait, its useless! As you can imagine, layering discs on each other is not a breathtaking discovery. The only reason people haven't done it yet is because not only is it RIDICULOUSLY expensive, but there's also no need at all for a slow 1.6TB singular memory disc!

Do you have any idea what you're talking about?

Holy shit, that's amazing that there's that much space a single disk. Of course, it won't be so amazing when you lose the thing, as I inevitably do.

Twenty bucks says that when it's cleared for consumer use, they're going to fuck us by making it a DVD-R.

Well, these things won't be commercialized for quite awhile, as stated in the article, but this is the future we are looking at, and it's not surprising that technology is moving faster towards our fantasies every day.

Good news for those who love technology.

I mean REALLY love technology.

With their penis.

Fresbies. Carrying more information for your best friend's forehead and dog's mouth generation after generation.

Blah blah, storing countless ones and zeroes on a physical object that can retain the order of said ones and zeroes and is compatible with a computer that can recall them quickly later, only to find that soon, a more efficient method will arise and render your storage device obsolete.

It's like trying to build the best cell phone.

All this is made possible by adding a fourth and fifth dimension to an optical disc. By doing this, a range of different colored wavelengths can read the same physical location.

...And what happens when I tilt my laptop the slightest bit?

You're being far too farsighted

Its slightly gibberish, but it gets the point across.

The thing is, the disc is probably going to be too expensive to really become the standard for movies. Essentially, it will just be a disc-shaped hard drive.
