Ruddkips decided that because the economy is so shitty, he should give everybody (over 18, who've filed a tax return) $900, no tax, no fine print, no nothing. Any other Australian hicks here with a bigger wallet? Any plans for it? I'm considering investing in a stormtrooper suit.

Also, it's not everybody, more like everyone in the lower half of the tax bracket.

I thought it was just everybody who filed a personal tax report, and didn't get all of their taxes back?

Nope, if you're up around the higher end of the tax bracket you won't see a cent.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't giving away cheddar a bad thing for the economy?

He expects us all to go out and spend it right away to inject it back in.

Most people just save it, so you're entirely correct.

As I understand it, this isn't cheddar that's being printed off for the express purpose of giving it away, but cheddar that the government already had, and allocated to this economic stimulus idea. Also, I think most people will probably want to pay off loans, mortgages etc., especially considering that we've already established that only the lower tax-bracket is seeing the cheddar. So no, if that logic holds true, it isn't such a bad idea.

Not a bad idea no, but half of it is going to people overseas who used to live in Australia or only lived in it for a short time.

So while if perfectly executed the idea would stimulate the economy, all we're really doing is sending a lot of our taxes to other countries and giving a little of it back to our own economy.

But a stormtrooper suit sounds awesome, saw some great ones at supanova the other day.
