Let's all help each other better ourselves. We all have things we'd like to improve because let's face it, we're all human and we all have flaws. Tell us about how you're working on your own self-improvement and encourage other forumites to go for the gold.

Big caveat with this thread: THIS IS NOT A THREAD TO SHIT ON YOURSELF OR OTHER PEOPLE. This is a thread for positivity and encouragement. It's OK to say that you're having a tough time with this or that, but stuff like "I'm absolutely worthless and no one will ever love me" is not constructive here. Please take those posts to the Sad Thread.

Anyways, I'd like to work on being more level-headed about things and realizing what's worth panicking/getting angry about and what isn't. I'm also looking to lose some weight. Like maybe ten pounds or so? I'm not really fat or anything, haha.

Longish running goal is to write minimum 2,000 words a day. Granted, it's not all very good but I've been more or less keeping up with it. Unsure how this translates to editing though, as it tends to be less quantifiable.

Also have a nebulous goal of losing 5-10 pounds, but don't have any particular way of going about it.

My current main goal is to try to be a bit better with my cheddar haha. Get the stuff I need to pay off out of the way and then I can worry about the fun stuff.

Also I need to start some habitual physical activity. I definitely wanna start running in the morning, that's for sure.

I'm trying to be less like people I don't like because I find myself doing that which I say is bad.

I'm doing alright with it.

Ooh boy okay, let's see what I'm working on currently.

I've been getting better at being aware of my depression and anxiety and how it affects me, and finding ways to stay in the swing of things and not get bogged down. Going to therapy in college really helped me keep track of what my thoughts are doing, and now that I'm not taking meds anymore that's super important. I want to be more emotionally self-sufficient and not be a burden on loved ones. Also the whole being an adult thing is helping me get over my anxiety when doing new things by myself, so that's slowly getting better.

I've been kinda half-assedly counting calories, i think now that I've gotten moving taken care of, I'll figure out an exercise routine. At least do some bodyweight stuff once a week.

Other goals: get a full time job. Gonna go into job application overdrive. I also kinda want to look into getting some more computer skills, i think having some IT experience would be really useful and fun. I'll have to go more research on how i can get into that, though.

Also i want to build my own pc, maybe later this year, so I've been trying to be more frugal and save my cheddar. Now that I'm paying my own rent that's super important. I do have cheddar saved up, i just want to be sure ill have enough for emergencies and whatnot.

Mmmmm...cheddar.

For me, three things: get through college, cut at least a little into my backlogs of entertainment, and somehow get to a running routine in the morning.

Hopefully I get two out of the three. Doubtful if I get all three.

I've been going to the gym, eating healthier, and actually studying. Those were basically the only goals I set for myself for when I first left for college so I'm super proud of myself.

I'm also going to try and meet new people within the next few weeks.

I'm sad about how this thread turned out.

self-improvement is a journey, not a destination

So I've gotten better at keeping in contact with old friends.

I sat down yesterday and wrote some jokes. I've always wanted to try doing stand up comedy and I've finally decided to try it. I don't have anywhere near me to perform it, but I can at least get some material ready for when I move somewhere that I can perform. Also, I've realized I like writing. Not enough that I would major in English or anything, but enough that I might start writing some short stories for my own entertainment.

Probably going to apply to a STEM program for Juniors and Seniors. Live in a college and complete those two years while taking college classes, graduating with 60 hours of college credit. Completely free if you get in. Difficult process and competitive, but I think I can make it.

Hey, thanks spam bot for reminding me of this thread.

I think I'm doing pretty well on the whole managing my anxiety thing. I'm a lot more mindful of what my feelings are doing and instead of just letting random anxiety/sadness take over I can recognize when it happens and when it's irrational. Doesn't make the feelings go away, but I can take steps to take care of myself and address the causes of them. Even if it means watching cheesy motivational videos or ranting to people in emails about how worried I am about stuff. I'm doing more and more things independently and once I become a teacher I think I'll get better and better at doing things on my own and asking for help when I need it (because oh boy, I am inexperienced as fuck and need all the help i can get).

Still haven't built a PC, due to not having a full-time job yet. But there's no real reason I SHOULDN'T have a job by this fall (of course, sometimes shit happens, but I've been optimistic). So by the time Black Friday rolls around you'd better believe I'll get a bomb-booty rig.

I've got a STEM day camp coming up next week, pretty excited and I think I'll get some great experience and network with the folks running it. It feels good to have something to do so I'm not sitting on my booty waiting for people to call me back about jobs.
