Thee/thou/thy and all of the verb conjugations that end in -eth and -st aren't actually formal fancy speak, but the familiar (equal or lesser-standing) version of the second-person pronoun/conjugation...

That's right, You, Your and Ye (the plural for both thou and you), are actually the formal/polite conjugation. It gained popularity for common people to speak it with equals and lessers in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. Gradually, second person T conjugation was phased out and became archaic. My guess as to how it became associated with the wrong end of the upper class is a two-part event:
1) The kings and nobility were likely the last to continue regular use of it (though not with each other. They were far too trendy for that.) The king in particular, considering everyone else in the country was considered beneath him. He'll call you all "thou" if he motherfuckin' wants to.
2) People misinterpret the use of Thou and so on in the KJV bible when addressing the Christian and Hebrew god. It is intended to imply a relationship of a personal nature, not a super high and mighty fancy address.
Which is why I always find it so funny whenever people try to be all fancy now with using T conjugation in prayer and stuff.
