Oh dear lord. So today I FINALLY got a call from one of the MANY places I handed my CV in for the last month. Como Pizza, this fancy-ish restaurent that sells a whole bunch of awesome stuff.

So anyway, Ihad applied for the dishwasher position. My friend had been one at a restaurant near his house for a while and figured "Hey, if he could do it, so can I."

Now, after working for 4 hours for which I was supposed to, and 4 EXTRA because people are such fucking pigs, I realize something special: I had food. I hate people. I hate cleaning peoples' motherfucking dishes.

Either way, it'll pay, and I'm sure it'll get better once I get to know people and it becomes routine and I actually use gloves so my hands don't become corpse-like (seriously, they were pruny and becoming blue/white) and my hands and legs stop hurting and I learn how to take a fucking brake halfway through my fucking shift....yeah, I worked 8 STRAIGHT hours ON MY FEET cleaning DISHES, having my hands SOAKING in water for 8 straight fucking hours.

Auhg, glad I'm home. Gonna go to sleep soon, my hands are so sore, and I need to get some rest...I'm goingb ack tomorrow, for approximatly the same number of hours, this time as directed. (4-11)

So enough about me, what had your worse job ever been?

easily Mcdonalds. Just be glad you weren't hired there Fauche. The thing about dish washing is even though it sucks, you don;t have to deal with customers face to face. In Mcdonalds, you have to clean, cook the meat with basically no protection, put the fires and chicken stuff in the greaser and salt the fries, which can be bodaciously a pain if you have a cut on your hand, assemble the food, and deal with impatient people either at the cash register or at the drive through. Not to mention dodging the occasional "bombs away"

I think everyone should be forced to work in food service at least once in their life so everyone can see how shitty it is and what those people taking your order have to deal with on a daily basis. Seriously. I worked at Wendy's for three years during high school. I hated it, but hey, it was paying me. And now whenever I get fast food and they fuck up my order, or take forever, or give me the wrong change, I don't get rustled because I know how easy it is to do.

However, that was not the worst job I've ever had. That title would go to my current position as a housekeeper at a Holiday Inn. You think the people that leave their table a mess at Burger King are slobs? Try cleaning up 12 or 14 rooms that 16-17 year old football players have stayed in for two days. Holy hell, you'd think a fucking tornado AND a hurricane went through those rooms. The trash will be everywhere BUT in the trash can, and they'll smell like BO and rotten banana peels.

Seriously people, when you stay at hotels, TRY to pick up after yourself as much as possible before you leave. Think about it this way - if you had guests at your house, would you appreciate it if they left the room they stayed in a pig sty just because "they don't have to clean it up"? I don't think so. Same principle for hotels.

And if you're in a hurry and have to leave a mess, leave a couple bucks. Really. We appreciate it.

Ye gods yes. When I worked at BK, (incidentally, that was the worst job I've had) I took shit so often from just about everyone around me. Customers, managers, even most of the employees. The only employees I managed to get along with were the high schoolers who'd come and go, cause they never stayed long enough for the job to break them. Everyone who stayed more than a few months became uptight and hurried and all around cunts. I avoid fast food now, but I'm always nice when I do get it, unless they treat me like utter shit. But yeah. Too many people think they can just step all over you just cause you're working at a fast food joint. I was tempted to write down the license plate numbers of every offender and later go to their houses and give them a nice chat, but that's slightly on the crazy side.

If anyone had ever done this to me, or if anyone ever tries to if I'm ever again forced by impossibly bad fortune to work in fast food, I would have/will gladly lost/lose my job due to dragging the worthless fuckers through the window and beating them senseless.

Yeah, I don't deny that angry customers can be exhausting on your psyche, but this dishwashing is physically exhausting. Last night, I went to bed at midnight, and until 5 I couldn't even fall asleep right because my arms were fucking killing me, felt like the growing pains of old, and I also kept dreaming about putting boxes away for some reason.

Then my mom woke up after my inceasant walking around the house and found me the pain killers, and then I finally got to get some sleep until noon. My finger joints/knuckles have never hurt so much. I think I may be getting arthritis or something. >.<

Hopefully I can get some sleep tonight. I don't work until Saturday and Sunday, so I have a couple days off, and I get to miss the Hell that I hear is Friday. woo.

EDIT: Also, my fingers are all cut up. I really need to get some good gloves. :psyduck:

13 hours when I was doing an apprenticeship. Kitchen work sucks massive penis. Not as bad as working with the waiters, though. Heads up; it doesn't get any better if you start doing food prep.

Heh, arthritis? Just make sure you take care of your hands and stretch em out and shit.

I've had off and on foot and knee problems ever since my year at BK. I should probably have it looked at. I need health insurance first though. >.>

From like, four months there and onwards, the arches of me feet had a constant dull pain to them whenever weight was put on them. And about three months before I quit my right knee started acting up. So now whenever I'm on my feet for a few hours that shit starts up again. The only consolation is that it hasn't been too long since I left there, so it may clear up yet.

Working with food is always shitty, unless you like to cook and work in a semi-posh joint.

I never worked in a fast-food joint but i've worked in 3 different Traditional restaraunts and a buffet. I have 7 years of it under my belt and it gets easy once you get the hang of it.

Dishwashing is AMAZING! It's my favorite thing to do and I say this as a guy who used to manage, wait, cook, host, and bus. Once you work your way up to the line or the floor, you'll discover how great it is, as someone pointed out already....the lack of customer interaction is amazing.

The worst job I had is definitely "Boston's: Gourmet Pizza." I'd work 14 hour shifts with no breaks, and that lasted about 3 weeks before I finally told them to go suck a dick. To be honest the worst part about the place wasn't that, it was the waitress'. No matter what traditional place you work at......the waitress' are complete whores. I had such horrible experiences at ALL of the places I worked at it turned me into the worst tipper in history. It's not like it was one or two of them either, ALL OF THEM were bastards! Then there was 1 or 2 MEGA-ULTRA-BITCHES. At Boston's I can remember very vividly that when a waitress would start giving me lip i'd "forget" all of their requests. Yea, try getting a good tip when your customer has been waiting 20 minutes for a side of ranch and 30 for his house salad.

15% is earned, it's not a given.

14 hour shifts with no breaks?

You should have sued their asses. That shit's illegal.

This isn't me personally but I still think it's bad enough to mention. We have a huge horse ranch at my university. It's owned by the Kellogg family to raise their Arabian horses. My old roommate seriously got a job there to shovel their crap. Seriously, she was the poop smith from strong bad.

Yeah, I also had a similarly bad job at a horse farm. That was only my second job and I absolutely hated every second of it. Now I work as a cashier at a nice restaurant, and it´s much more enjoyable.

Honestly this is what happened, "You guys are free to take a break whenever you choose." Of course they fucking scammed it so that if we ever left our stations the entire kitchen became slammed, and if there was any free time, we had a 4-page prep/side-work list that needed to be completed every day, so suffice to say, no one ever got a break. There was quite a high drop out rate because of it. Looking back on it I should have reported them, but at the time I was trying to get on the good side of the owner and head-chefs, so screw it.

Working horse farms? I've done a lot of help for my uncle helping him with his cattle, especially in the spring during calfing season. He had horses to, and the cows are so much easier to deal with it's unreal. I'm sure the fact that they're stupid as shit helps. Eventually got rid of them when they started to trample and kill some of the calfs, happiest day of my life. You don't have to shovel shit or bail hay for an ATV-Quad anyway.
