Iirc there's actually a rule that the pope has to be at least 80 or something.

The pope gets voted in by the cardinals I believe, but I think it's just that you need to be a quite senior ranking member of the church, not X years old

I don't know about the age thing because wasn't it like when the papacy first started people could barely live past 60 or something (Probably lower) If it's a recent ruling then it just goes to show you that they want to keep their archaic customs for as long as possible.

I think it's the opposite--there's a rule that says the Pope can't be over a certain age. I think it's 80.
