Maybe they're mostly just really self conscious about their flaws and thus think that they aren't worth someone who they can't see as many flaws in.

I know that is always how I feel and it can really mess me up sometimes, worrying about them going to a "Better" person because they're way to good for me?

It's really weird how love can alter your perception of reality.

Like this girl I like, deep down, rationally some part of me recognises her flaws, but for some reason I still find her emotionally the most beautiful girl I have ever seen. Seriously, when you show me a like a serious model, some part of me rationally can clearly see she's much more beautiful according to pretty much anyone's standards(including my own), but I'd still prefer to be with that one girl, even when disregarding personalities. It's kind of weird being trapped between these conflicting feelings, but I'm just going to go with the positive ones, even though the girl is out of my league
