Alright so after a few days of research and a few more fruitless scans I'm just going to restore my computer to factory settings as that seems easier and probably quicker than dealing with what seems like an inexplicably appearing trojan or something similar, something I have no idea how to deal with. and , seeing as nothing on my computer is all that important and I only need my computer to be functional for 2 or 3 more weeks before I can afford a new one so I'm not particularly heart broken, it could use some cleaning out anyway.

From what I understand All i need to do is burn a recovery to a disc or usb and run it through that with some back up drivers just in case, and put the code on the bottom of my laptop in when prompted. Is that right or am I putting a gaping hole in the actual process. I have some pretty basic training with computers that i haven't used in almost 3 years now, every guide I find talks about a lot of things I don't particularly remember too well.

What kind of a recovery exactly? I'm afraid I'm not very familiar with the way manufacturers handle this, I've always just manually reinstalled Windows. Your license should be valid regardless of how you do it though.

It's essentially the same as a manual reinstall, it restores it to the point it was when I bought it.

I'm not so sure that'll be what you want though.
if it's not a true reinstall, will it get rid of the trojan?

I'm still not entirely sure it was a trojan, but it still wasn't something I knew how to deal with as I'd exhausted all my knowledge just trying to figure out what it was.
Regardless, having already done the restore, the problem has been fixed and other than a few bugs in 2 or 3 programs from the backup i needed to either repair or reinstall, the only thing I'd lost in the process was my bookmarks.
I don't think how I went about it was the optimal solution but it was a solution nonetheless.

Depends if the trojan managed to get into specific files. If it did, then no amount reinstalling will help other than complete reformat.

like I said, I only need this compter for a few more weeks, as long as it continues to function as is, if it still has a crippling bug on it after that I couldn't care less.

My computer crashed a bit ago.

Everything froze up and semitransparent yellow bars were across the screen.

It's the second time this has happened and i'm kinda scared.

Corrupted graphics card is what I would normally say, but you don't have one.

Maybe overheating then.

What were you doing on your computer when it crashed?

Graphics- or processor-heavy games, for a long time? Maybe a certain program?

Hmm. Did you ever find out what was causing it?

I just downloaded an app to tell me my CPU temperature, and I think its going to turn me into a hypochondriac. The cores are rated for 105 degrees C and they seem to get up to the mid 90s when I'm playin vidya.

...I might invest in a cooling fan.
