That's assuming we are a simulation run to find out if the guys running it are a simulation. There could be any other number of reasons to run a universe simulation.

When you extinguish the flame, the heat remaining is still enough to turn the tallow/stearin into a gas. The gas follows the smoke and when you light it, it will burn down to the source of the stearin, igniting the candle again.
