The moment you've been waiting for:
BurntToShreds Interviews: Le Great Handsome Oppressor
Now right off the bat, are you male or female?
I'm a man, and pretty comfortable with it.
Alright. Now what is your favorite topic on the forums and why?
Hmm, now that's a tough one... To be honest, the topics I like are few and far between - I don't feel much for most of them. I like the threads in which members post pictures though, like Funny Pictures, War Face, GPOY, DA&FA... My current favourite is of course princess brothel's brilliant Social Commentary thread. I like the Steam Begging thread because it lets me steal games from members. I'd say Unimportant Topics is nice too, at times.
(My actual favourite topic is of course the one that only moderators can read)
Hmm, interesting. Now, you live in France. What kinds of cuisine does France have that might interest other people on this forum?
Cuisine in France is pretty awesome. Apart from fancy restaurants with excellent and sophisticated cuisine (France is known for its cuisine, after all), we have simple yet very good dishes. I advise everyone to look up Cassoulet, Pot-Au-Feu, Mouclade, Quiche Lorraine, Soupe à l'Oignon, Omelette Campagnarde, Crêpes... Mostly solid stuff that fills your belly! Most of these are rustic dishes from the countryman, and while it may not be as fine as the cuisine you'd find in a restaurant, it's good and warm food that will turn any winter evening into a delicious moment. Soupe à l'Oignon is mostly made for supper, too.
So what kinds of hobbies do you have? Do you do anything else but defend the forum against delinquency?
I play video games, I read mangas and French comics, and I talk to people online. Nothing fancy.
I like competitive gaming, especially the Fighting Game Community. These games are fascinating when played to the top level. There is so much to see, and so much to discover, and the community is amazing (once you get past the trolls). Fighting games are pretty much my passion. I like Speedrunning and Tool-Assisted Speedrunning, although it's mostly as a spectator since my hand coordination is terrible (and I CBA to learn how to TAS). I mostly like games that have a good ambiance, a good story or a good concept. I also kinda like banal games. I'm not a very good player.
I read mostly shonen and seinen stuff. Lately I've been re-reading Akira, and buying mangas from Jiro Taniguchi. About French comics, I mostly read Trondheim stuff, or classics like Adèle Blanc-Sec, Thorgal, stuff like this.
I spend most of my time on AZ, Twitter and YouTube. The first one because there are cool guys to talk to, the second one because it lets me follow loads of stuff about Fighting games, the third one for the same reason as Twitter. I also upload some game soundtracks to YouTube in my spare time.
I like theatre too and was part of a troop for a few years, but stopped when our director left, as my motivation unfortunately depended a lot on her (the other directors I thought were dicks).
I also love beer. Fortunately, I have a pal that is into beer as much as I am, and is also quite rich, which lets me test out lot of new beers. Stout forever.
Do you watch any of the Japanese animes? If so, which is your favorite?
I watch some. My favourites of all time are certainly Cowboy Bebop, Samurai Champloo, Millenium Actress, Nausicaä, and the Haruhi movie (first time I saw a movie in 1080p, mind blown). Anything Ghibli is great. From the most recent animus, I want to watch Nichijou. I also watched the three Gundam Unicorn OVAs that are out, and they were great. Special shoutouts to Hokuto no Ken and Captain Harlock.
I'm not much of a connoisseur in Japanimation, actually, but I pride myself in knowing some of the classics.
Cool. Now, finally, on to the hard-hitting questions. How tough is it to be a mod? Which board is the hardest to moderate and why, and which thread gives you the most trouble?
It's not too hard. It just asks for a bit of time and a chunk of patience and civility. It's not actually difficult to moderate, but the General Shenanigans move so fast that I can't really see everything that goes on there. I'd say the most troublesome thread may be Taboo Topics (when someone goes too far, or when another misinterprets something, it sometimes degenerate into pointless arguments), but most of the time it stays civil, even when the ambience gets tense. It may be surprising, but being a mod isn't too hard, especially since I have other competent proletariats to work with. It can get a bit tiring or unnerving, and while I did already vent about it a few times, it never gave me a headache or prevented me from sleeping, and I am very glad to be able to help out AZ by moderating. I'm still learning too.
Well there you have it, folks. Up next is Ame No Akai.
