It depends, going to the gym once a week and doing a full workout is most definitely worth it. I say go for it at any rate, every bit helps and it'll make you feel good about yourself. How long of a workout (in time) were you planning?

Not sure, what's a good amount of time to plan for? I was thinking about doing some research online to find some good routines and stuff to follow.

I'm pretty new to the workout thing. :pseudo:

Well I try to work-out 10 minutes every day (although that hasn't been going very well), and if you did that for only 1 or 2 times a week it wouldn't do much, but an hour one or two times a week would definitely have effect I say. If you're stretched for time or can't last that long you could maybe do half an hour but I wouldn't go much lower then that.

Some tips for a hour long workout (just from experience, I actually know jack shit):
- if you aren't sweating your balls off after you didn't work out hard enough
- some muscle ache is expected when you start out, proper diet and spacing your work-outs out will help with this, stretching as well but I have to say something about that in a bit
- do an all-round work-out, focus on multiple muscle regions in your body and on strength and endurance
What you prioritise in your work-out depends on your goal, if you want to lose weight and trim down it's different from if you want to build muscle. But that can all be kind of over-whelming at the start so just start out and fine-tune it later I say.

On stretching: there's been a lot of discussion about this between physicians and stuff, I think to be safe: don't do any static stretching before your work-out, but you can do dynamic which is where you keep moving the muscle you're stretching (like for the neck: look up and down and left to right a bunch of times, don't rotate!). After the work-out or even during you can do static stretching as well, when the muscles are warmed up and loosened.
As for how deep/hard you have to stretch: just against the pain limit, not over it. You have to feel it but it can't hurt badly.

To start if you remember exercises and stuff from PE you can do these in your work-out, if you look stuff up on the internet start with the simple ones. If you like doing that you can make a little schedule with all the things you want to do and follow that. Remember to alternate between different muscle regions so you can give those muscles a short break.

Anything you do is worth it. There's always that stuff about making little changes like walking to places instead of taking the car. Or taking the stairs instead of the lift.

You'll manage to find extra time all over the place if you do little exercises.

Don't feel the pressure to go all out, join a gym and buy expensive equipment. Little by little you'll get to know your body and how far you can push yourself.

Woop did a little workout today for about an hour, though I took a lot of breaks, still getting used to things. Just did some random stuff, I found a decent stretch of my apartment I can jog back and forth on (I don't like going out in public to run very much, and my headphones are broken so I wouldn't be able to bring my music to the gym.) plus did some pushups, situps, lunges, jumping jacks, and some other random stuff.

Now I'm eating a tasty postworkout snack of yogurt and granola. Mmmmm granola, and it has protein in it too.

Celebrity work-out plans are usually insane since they have a very short amount of time to adjust their bodies. Be sure to at least also adopt his diet.

Oh he got in shape after Cowboys and Aliens in six months, I'm hoping for at least by the time I graduate.

Also yeah, diet plan too. Forgot to mention that.

There is a free fitness center on campus, and a basic gym across the street from my dorm that is also free to students.

Yeah the thing with celebrity diets and fitness plans is that they have a boatload of people ordering them to actually get up and do it, something that the majority of people don't have.
Think of all the people that text them in the morning and afternoon reminding them of the workouts they have to do, then the trainers they meet up and get coached with, and then all the people that plan out their diets for the next few months and the people that actually cook the food for them. It's a big production.

Granted, anyone can do these plans, but it's the ability to stick with them and keep going that almost nobody has unless there's an army telling them to get off their asses and go.

Unrelated: I just got back from my first 30-minute workout of the day, I just found out about boosting my metabolism through working out more (duh, how did I not know this before) so I've started on working out until I can eat all the food and gain nearly nothing, haha

I signed on for a 12k run across a muddy track with obstacles, so now I'm doing 3 runs a week and working up to running in the dunes and on the beach. The muscles in my legs are pretty much continually sore.

I try to work out atleast three times a week, sometimes four, with focus on muscle building rather than losing fat. Been doing it for a while now, its mostly noticeable on my arms and legs.

Oh man, that's cool. I have so much respect for long distance running.

Recent asthma attacks have made it difficult to do exercise. I still spend at least 30-45 minutes a day dancing spastically, but it would be nice to actually go into routines without laboring for breath and needing an albuterol treatment.

My night manager is also on a health kick and told me she got a gym membership and that it has a buddy system, where she can bring a friend for free. I told her I'd be totes interested in going if she wanted, and she seemed excited so maybe I'll finally get to go to the gym again, wooooo.

I go through periods of time where I work out fairly often, and then I go through other periods where I don't do anything outside of my daily required movement. I started one of my workout periods a few days ago.

I try to work out for 4 days a week, 5 if I feel good, but they say that working more than 4 isn't really beneficial, so it's usually just 4.

I don't do everything all at once, but throughout the day, I get about 30 minutes of exercise, more than 40 on days that I decide to run (won't be very often right now because it's cold as tits outside).

My routine right now is:
25 Push-ups (4 times throughout the day, so 100 at the end of the day)
25 sit-ups (4 times as well)
25 Chair dips (Also 4 times)
25 squats (Again, 4 times)
10 chin-ups (once a day)
5 Pull-ups (once a day)
And on days that I feel like running, I run about a mile, maybe a bit more.
My favorite is swimming, but it's a summer only thing, and I don't get to do it often enough to include it in the list.
I'd like to get another ab exercise in there, but I don't know of any.

As for dieting, I eat whatever I want. I don't gain weight. I've tried gaining weight, but I can't. I ate like a pig over Thanksgiving, and ended up losing 3 pounds. As for dieting to gain muscle mass, I don't really care. I'm not looking to get ripped or anything, I just don't want to be extremely out of shape.
