Well, just look around. Find out what you like. I'd say go with shoes first. Just find one pair of shoes that you feel like the ultimate badass in, and you won't care what else you're wearing.

There's a similar pair here if boots are more your thing, but like I say, just go out and buy some classy shoes. It's as good of a starting point as any.

I love love LOVE boots. I had a pair of combat boots a few years ago that I wore so often the soles started peeling off the shoe.

Now I have four pairs of boots:

-Awesome brown leather boots that go halfway up my calf and would look perfect with a green tunic and hat (ololololol)
-A classy sleek black pair that go halfway up my calf and are good for formal things--but they have small pointy high heels so I don't wear them often
-Clunky snow boots
-and an awesome pair of old-style soft leather boots that fold around the ankle and practically scream Robin Hood.

I would get more pairs but refer back to my parent's argument about me dressing like a lady.

Oh, man, I vish I had stores like this in my city.

I wish I was a classy man.

Instead I am a trashy girl.

I can rarely find anything I like in clothes shops because I have such specific tastes. And I hate most girls clothes because the majority of them have weird sleeves and weird patterns and weird frills and for gods sake what is with those weird dungaree/pyjama things everyone seems to be wearing nowadays :I I will admit that a number of my t-shirts were originally intended for boys, but come on, I'm never going to find a girls shirt with John Lennon, Jimi Hendrix and Freddie Mercury on it. >_> Shoes are even worse because the only kinds of shoes I really like are Converse, and going into shops to see the selection consists of high heels (lolno), long boots (which would look weird on me) and poncy little things that look like slippers doesn't really do a lot to rectify this. </rant>

...On a lighter note, suits are awesome. Especially grey pinstriped ones. And especially combined with matching trilbies.

Seriously, though, it's not too hard to look good in clothes. You just have to be selective and to like yourself in what you wear without being a douchebag about it.
Also, some classy things are clearly made for thin or muscled or whatever men, which seems unfair but the hype doesn't fucking care about fat people or ugly people. They're assholes, yep.
