Depends on whether it is a first, second, or third order reaction. There's also the rate constant to take into account. Can you give me a little more info on the problem?

Xabyrn you are silly.

It's the uh, log version of it. Or, lne version. It's... Nt = Nbase0 something something.

Okay, it's first-order then.

Image

k = rate constant
t = time
[A]0 = concentration at t = 0
[A]t = concentration of A at any time t

What's the equation to find the half-life of something?

Half life?

or half life time = ln(2)/(decay constant lambda)

See the problem with this thread is that some simple questions can be answered just by going to Wikipedia or googling it.

And believe me, I will do that if someone asks a (simple) question that I don't know.

Ah, I must have been getting confused with the half-life during reactions. My bad. Thanks for correcting me, Leoj.

This is more of a chemistry and a rate reaction rather than a half-life. Usually half-life refers to something like a radioactive particle/substance decaying such as Carbon 14.

The though it always appreciated though. You were sorta on the right track. I don't mean to say you are stupid, but I'd rather point out that you had the wrong idea.

Well, it's a good thing though. I'd hate it if Bacon got something wrong because I gave her the wrong equation. I guess I've been in a Chem mindset since I just finished up my work for that class, haha.

You're welcome Bacon! And Looking at it now, If you changed the A to an N it would essentially be the same equation (although it might be -kt, it depends). It's just written differently. Pretty nifty, actually.

My book seems to denote lambda as k for some reason, though.

Crowbar + crowbar is the most important formula you will ever learn.
