I think there'd probably be a huge international race for who gets to claim mars

With that sort of technology Mars is just an eyeblink away. The entire solar system would be open to us. Aren't space programs a joint effort these days? Maybe China would try to get there first but they're still behind on technology on us, although they got the economic power to make up for it.

We could definitely use the love and attention for technology and science that such an achievement would breed in people.

I don't think anyone would care much about Mars. Everyone would be way more into Gliese 518g, (did I get that right?) even before anyone reaches it.

I'm pretty sure I saw a video about that recently but can't remember what that thing is for the life of me

I've forgotten the name for that kind of metal. It's something that can shift from liquid to solid and vice versa. Magnetic too it looks like. Ferrometal?

Commonly referred to as Ferrofluid. You can look up videos on youtube, it does all kinds of crazy stuff.

With the notable difference being that it's not intelligent.

Mars would be a useful staging area for launches into deeper space. Its lower gravity would mean less energy expended to break orbit, and the water found there can be turned into rocket fuel.

Both don't matter much if you have warp technology.

I'm assuming a scenario where warping within an atmosphere is inherently dangerous. Also, didn't they say they had to look for particular points in space where this would be possible?

Kind of hard to predict where those areas will be now, no?

I'm just repeating what the astrophysicist said.

So, from what I gather:

(_____Less mass_____(Bubble, holds ship)_____More mass_______)

and, by a diffusion-like process, the ship in bubble would move into the area of low mass.

Right?
