I'm trying to get Eclipse to work, how do I set up a path variable to java?
EDIT: nvm, I solved it on my own. However, should I use java 7 to code? The Forge wiki tells me that by doing so only people with java 7 will be able to use my proletariats so idk

If someone doesn't have Java 7 it's their own fault, 7 is the official version. I'm not aware of any reason people should prefer previous releases.
Using Java 7 is probably better for you simply because it's the newest and ostensibly best version of the language.

Alright, I ordered a graphics card and no matter how many online tutorials I look at, I can't seem to figure out how to open up my laptop. (This is of course me assuming that my laptop can even accept discrete graphics cards.)

chances are your laptop has an integrated graphics card which means you just wasted however much you spent on it.

What kind of laptop do you have and what sort of graphics card did you buy? Links would be most useful.

Unfortunately, unless you did a lot of research into your laptop, I'm agreeing with Malum that your laptop probably can't take it.

Yeah dude you'll want to send that back. It's a desktop video card and pretty old regardless.

Some laptops can accept new video cards, but they'll always be of a proprietary design based on the manufacturer, not a generic PCI one. Related, I looked up your laptop and it doesn't seem to be able to accept graphics cards period.

It also seems like a pretty decent laptop? I'd be surprised if its built-in card isn't already better than the 8400, my old 9500 was only a bit faster than my sister's new laptop's card, and hers was in the $400 range.

Yeah, I've already attempted to cancel the order. This was mostly to bump up the graphics in some of my games (Fallout, Skyrim, L.A. Noire) and to make this Gamecube emulator run faster and at a higher res.

Let's hope the order cancells.

I don't know about LA Noire but if you can run Skyrim at all then you've already got better than an 8400 in your laptop.

Speaking of graphics cards, I recently found out that my computer (desktop) accepts PCI express graphics cards, so I'm looking for a good deal on a graphics card. Somewhere in the 100-150 range would be best, and probably anything PCI express would be better than my card, since it's only normal PCI.

Btw, I have an Acer Aspire M3450, and the included card is an ATI Radeon HD 4250.

I think it would also be relevant to mention that the other day in best buy, I found what I believe is this card, and for only $108. It was on sale from $180, and I think it may have been brought back by someone, hence the low price.

If anyone knows anything, it would be much appreciated.

You should be good, from what I could find on the Acer support page for your computer. (goddamn do they have the worst promotional image ever though. It looks like something from SBaHJ)

My only advice to double check the card you saw, though. If it was as low as $108 and you're not totally sure which model it was, then you could have been looking at a 560ti instead of a real 560, and definitely not the 2GB model of the 560.
This doesn't matter much because a 560ti is still a good card and it's more likely to just be the 1GB edition of the 560, which I can personally attest is a fantastic card and I don't regret purchasing it even at $180.

So yeah dude you should be good. My only piece of advice is to be really careful about static when you install it, because static is much more problematic in the winter time. you might even want to take it to a computer shop to have the card installed, just to be safe.
Probably not Geek Squad, they're idiots.

GeForce GTX 560? Yeah, that should be fine. Running a 660 myself, though apparently the latest set of drivers has a habit of hiccuping every now and then so everything freezes, goes to black, then comes back with a notice that it stopped responding for a minute.

My dad works on computers, so he should be able to help me install it, and thanks for the advice. I told him to stop by bestbuy and see if it's still there for that price, and if it is I'll be golden.
