I put an ad to sell my useless Macbook Pro (the one I was forced to buy to be admitted into a program I quit and the one one the far right here) yesterday and today someone called me and offered to exchange it for his Acer Aspire 5745DG. What do you guys think?

Get the specs of the other first as well as its age.

Intel Core i5, 500Go hard drive, 6Go of RAM, blu-ray, 3D display. He said it was from this year.
I'm pretty sure it was cheaper than my overpriced Macbook, so I was thinking about asking him if he could give me some cheddar as well.
But now that I think of it, I'd better just sell it and buy the one I want during the boxing day.

Listed there in the link. Yeah I'd say sell it normally since you have an i7 and he's offering an i5.

Adblock Plus downloaded from the Mozilla webpage is legit, right?

just so i know i'm not downloading a virus or something, i'm unnaturally paranoid about viruses and other such shenanigans

If it's from the Mozilla addon page it's a safe bet that it's virus-free. Same with the Google Chrome extension store. I'd be wary about addons/extensions from any other site, though.

ok so my parents decided to blow around 100 dollars on whatever I want for Christmas. because I only had 140 dollars I originally intended to spend it on Homestuck shirts and video games. they want to spend it on some fuckin 1080p monitor but I think fuck that this computer is old as hell and I already have a good 1680x1050 22 inch monitor so I went on Newegg and applied coupons to save as much cheddar as possible. it'll cost $269.36 to upgrade my computer's processor, RAM, and motherboard. should I go with this?

After putting in time for retail holiday hell and with a timely Christmas gift I now have the funds needed to build a new computer. And what luck, Newegg has a great combo, as far as I can tell, within my budget. Plugged in every piece to PCPartPicker and they're all highly-rated + compatible.

Just waiting for my deposited checks to clear so I can place the order.

Wait, is it a pre-built or just a pre-picked bunch of parts?

That is an insane price/power ratio.

@Mete: Pre-picked bunch of parts. I assemble it all.

@Runes: In a good or bad way?

I've got a couple problems that I've been unable to fix. I tried installing Ubuntu with the Grub boot loader several months back. The installation went fine, but it doesn't work. First of all, when I turn my computer on, I get a resolution error and the screen is black. I use my tv as my monitor and it has no option for changing the resolution, and my other actual monitor doesn't either and it's auto adjust doesn't do anything. Anyway, while it's black it goes to the Grub boot loader screen and after a while of pressing nothing (or just hitting enter) Ubuntu loads up. It then tells me to login, but no matter what I do, it doesn't let me. I've tried using the password that I gave it during setup and it keeps saying "incorrect login." The only difference that I can get is that it takes a little longer before the message pops up if I use the right password (if I just put in something random, the message pops up immediately.)

I can still access windows by pressing down several times and then pressing up and enter while the screen is black (I guess Windows is the second to last selection in the boot loader), so I don't really care much.I was just going to restore my computer, but it seems that my sister threw away my restore disc on accident.

So, do any of you know how to fix this or how to delete the boot loader and Ubuntu without getting rid of Windows? It's fine if you don't, but I figured I would ask.
