I don't think this is what Shazza was asking?
She wanted to know if there's any physical between SSDs for desktops and laptops.
I don't have an answer, but my two cents on the rest of the post: if the only SSD-laptop is out if your price range and is too small anyway, I'd say you're much better of buying a less expensive laptop and a huge external hard disc drive. That said, I don't know the advantages of SSD aside from their speed, so I'm not really getting the full picture.

mostly speed and they're light, don't make noise or vibrate etc. so may be more comfortable to use in a laptop. it's more a thing of I WANT THE COOL NEW TECHNOLOGY though really haha

i've done a bit more research and it seems that stranaton was actually right in a roundabout way? that because SSDs are so small/light they'll fit in either a laptop or a desktop as long as your hard drive brace(? the metal thing you screw the HDD to haha) is the right size/the SSD is thin enough. it seems that the only kind of laptops you really have to pay attention to SSD size in is the tiny little notebook ones. so i bought the cheaper laptop with the regular HDD and will replace it with a 256 or bigger (if i can find a good price,) SSD and use the original HDD as a new external :]

because you can never have too many external drives

Installed Linux mint 64-bit, ran into a couple of problems:
-Installing Skype (ubuntu multi-arch, from the official skype site) doesn't seem to work, the installer just sort of freezes and refuses to close down
-I can't input my superuser password into the terminal, as it ignores my keyboard (though Enter still works)

There is a skype client in the software manager. I had no issues using that version, however I believe it is an older one. I am not quite sure on that. However, the package manager should be able to install the .deb file.

When the terminal asks for your password, it will never display that you are typing. Just type in your password and press enter. There is no visual feedback on it.

So a while ago, I accidentally entered Ubuntu in safe mode because my fingers slipped on the grub loader thing.
Apparently this set up a password???? So now my Ubuntu install has a password and I jaw no idea what it could be. Is there a way around this or a default that I should try?

Use latest version of Microsoft word, Libre Office or Open Office. They can all open them.

daisies.

WAIT! there is internet, but you can't download anything from most websites because no privilege

Could emailing it to someone with Word 2007, having them change it, and email it back work?

There are many online converters. You could turn the .docx into a .doc so you could read it in Office 2003. And Hotmail lets you upload your files to a cloud, and allows you to see them directly inside of your browser. Or Google Documents.

Yes it would work.

e: Also I'm not sure but maybe the portable version of Libreoffice doesn't require admin privilege if you install it on a USB drive (if your problem is downloading, then I don't know. Maybe it only applies to IE?)
