A lot of people, when looking at bones, don't realize that your fingers actually have a fourth bone, the metacarpals that makes up your palm. You only see the usual 3 bones, the proximal, middle, and distal phalanges(just the proximal and distal for thumbs) when covered with flesh.

So skeleton hands can sometimes throw people off.

That almost looks like more of a deformity than an injury at first glance. And then I see the fact that the flesh of the hand has been ripped to shreds and I cringe.
