AWKWARD ZOMBIE

Ever since I did early morning freight shifts at my last grocery store (work started at 3:30 in the AM three days a week), I've been able to predictably and consistently sleep about seven hours each night. Sometimes if I pull an all-nighter I'll sleep longer the next day, but on a normal night I never really worry about whether I'll wake up on time. If I go to bed at 12 I know I'll be up between 6 and 8.

I actually don't use any sleep aid. It was more a question than a statement. Oh, and wouldja look at that post time! ^

So it's time for another research essay! This time, the classification iiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiisssssssssss:

Class: Physical Science Honors!
Essay: Persuasion!
Topic: Global Warming!

BONUS CONDITION: No using the school website's Class Project page for resources!

In all seriousness, I'd be fine with whatever topic, but the fact that there isn't a Class Project page means I have to search for resources, and then perform website evaluations on them. The only way to make a research project worse is make me use Google to do it. With how I mentally process, it's like dropping a box full of a topic onto my desk without instructions or reasoning.

Okay, so I get that the whole purpose of this thread is venting, but if you're in the age range that I think you are, be pop flyin' that you aren't limited to a shitty, half-managed library card catalogue. I'm the right age that growing up in a rural school district, I got to see the crossover and transition from the old card systems to electronic catalogues and usable internet, and having used both, I gotta say that Google is a fucking godsend for schoolwork.

The purpose of this assignment is likely 80% forcing you practice finding and evaluating information, which is a critical life skill these days. Which is probably why they're making you go through all this extra rigor that might seem a bit needless at the moment.

bodaciously every class I have ever taken has not provided me with a "resource page" with which to find sources for my essays and projects. Having to use google should not be an unexpected inconvenience.

I've never even heard of a resource oage being a thing, but I havrent been inngrade school for a good 8 years and college doesnt babymode like that. That said, finding resources on something like global warming would be extemely easy.

Tip: Go to Wikipedia's page on Global Warming, go to the bottom and use the references that Wikipedia uses. Boom, there's your resources. Or use Google. Look up tips on how to find reputable sources. It's really not that hard. Life is all about finding answers to things. Global Warming is an extremely huge topic, you could find tons of resources easily.



My 12th grade English class was forced to use some virtual library for a paper once. It was awful. Half the stuff in it was outdated, and the rest was behind a paywall. I ended up using my own resources for it and then just cited a couple of the library ones, and hoped that my teacher wouldn't check them. I was right and got a 94 haha.

The easiest places to find info on climate change would probably be NASA or the EPA. I know NASA has a lot of nice online resources. Also, any random not-rigorously-reputable article you find on the topic will probably list sources of the actual scientific studies they used. So just follow the trails you find.

It's okay to get like 90% of your actual information from one conveniently-put-together source and the other 10% from other sources, too, if it works out that way.

Gonna give you some real talk here for a second mate. If you plan on going to college after high school, you'd better find a way to fix your procrastination habits. I didn't when I went so I ended up dropping out and now I'm stuck working a shitty customer service job until I can pay off what I owe so I can go back. It sucks.

Yeah, I am not planning on college. Not with my current grades.
Also I hate writing essays so bad, I have bored myself in YouTube, and I still will not do the essay.

Tried to grab my dinner and retreat to my room to have a nice dinner and movie with Sailor Moon (I'm in a long distance relationship) and my family was like "be social, come eat with us and have a family dinner" and sure, that's a fair idea but I'd already planned the dinner and EVA-01 was waiting for me.
I kind of refused and mum decided to say "No, stay here and have dinner with us." I responded by saying "No, I was going to have dinner and a movie with Sailor Moon," and dad says "Oh good, so the movie can wait, it's on netflix or something (again technically correct but still). At this point I was still just grumpy and frustrated because said girlfriend was waiting on me before starting her meal and her dinner was ready a little while ago, so I decided to just wordlessly ignore them and take the food because hey, I'm twenty and I can have a meal or two with Sailor Moon when I want to.

Then some wiseass decides to snark as I'm heading off, "Remember when (my name) was part of the family?"

Yes, I've had less family dinners since I got into a relationship. I'm trying to get better about the whole "balance between relationship, school, social life, hobbies and family life" thing. No, that doesn't give you the fucking right to disown me even for a cheap laugh and leave me humiliated as I walk back to my room.

And I couldn't stand up for myself either, I just walked off and took it all in humiliated as I went back to my room. I'm such a damned coward.

It's not cowardice, it's disengaging yourself before things got more heated. There was no way you could have pleased your family, because they only cared about you doing one thing. There's no pleasing people when they get like that and if you'd stayed to argue then you would have just kept your girlfriend waiting longer and gotten your family (and yourself) more upset.
