Iunno what you mean by "tell if this is a thing" because you either figure you like him/her or you don't

Just think it over for a bit and see if it's a legitimate feeling, or just a passing "what if" kinda thing. Don't be afraid of it, just think it over and give it time.

The golden rule is usually "time will tell"

Make an effort to hang with him and try to gauge if he has some manner of affection. Strengthen your relationship with him and get more comfortable around eachother, and then you could always try to pop the question or ask about his thoughts on dating. Obviously there's no rulebook anyone can read from to tell them, and everyone's different with this stuff. The important thing is just getting close to him if you want to, and learning to read him. You'll likely have a good idea at some point as to when it would be appropriate to take things further.

Obviously you have a lot of factors to consider when starting a relationship with someone (as do all of us) but that doesn't mean it's hopeless.

Is it wrong for me to try and stop my guy friend from liking my friend who's a girl and has a boyfriend of 3 years?

Well it's certainly respectful of you; nobody likes rejection. As long as you're not "NOWAI MANG SHE'S NOT INTO YOU GTFO" then it should be good.

Though I will say this: If someone has strong enough feelings for someone they'll keep those feelings until they decide not to of their own accord.

My advice to you is try and not get in the middle of things too much. Be respectful of his feelings, as it's not like he chose to feel that way. You're not being a very good friend by dismissing his feelings just because they're not very practical.

That said, be sure to remind him of the situation and that the facts won't change just because he feels a certain way. It's not okay for him to put your friends in an uncomfortable position with him if he has a good handle on things. If he cannot handle his feelings, perhaps it would be best for him to take some distance?

I don't think anything you do will be wrong. In the end, what ever course your male friend chooses to take will have been his own choice.

Let him know what you honestly think. If he doesn't like it, then he only has himself to blame if things don't work out.

You're his friend, not his yes-man.

I never thought of it in those ways.. This has been really helpful, thanks. I guess I'll just tell him I don't approve and stuff. I don't like that it makes her feel uncomfortable, and that he keeps ditching me for her. From what you guys have told me, I really hope he doesn't do what he says he wants to do and wait for her for forever.

If your female friend is uncomfortable about it, he definitely hasn't got a chance. Frankly if he tries to pursue her despite that, it could be considered a form of harassment.
