I've never really understood the whole "anonymity = douchebag" thing the Internet seems to love. Just because people can't see your face doesn't mean you should abandon common decency, even--and especially --if you're conversing with a troll or the like.

Short version

1. At some tech conference, Adria Richards heard some guys making what she thought was a sexist jokes about dongles
2. Launched a full-on smear campaign, one of the dudes got fired
3. Backlash happened, she got fired too
4. Amidst all that, she apparently got threats of violence and rape (which if the screencap I posted is legit, were an "inside job")

That's how I understood it.
