"Just because the gashes on Bud's door were from the kitchen knife, doesn't mean Bud had that knife," Whitney sighed. "Someone else probably took it. Why would Bud slice up his own door, anyway?"

"But if that's the case... why would someone try to attack Bud at his house, leave it behind, and why in turn would Bud take the knife with him to go visit Joe? Why not stay inside the house if the person with the knife clearly couldn't get into Bud's house?"

"Someone gave it to him, maybe? Or perhaps they dropped it, and he found it. Geez, the second we think we've figured something out, it looks like there's an even bigger web to untangle..." Diana's shoulders drop.

Pierce suddenly looks up.
"Wait a minute..... We all spent that day getting to know each other! I went with Coco to a tree by the river, and Whitney and Diana went off on their own as well. If that's the case, isn't it possible that in the large span of time between breakfast and dinner that Bud found an opportunity to take the knife after everyone left? His house is close to the plaza, after all."

"Why would somebody cut his door, though? If somebody was trying to make there way into the house, they'd use an axe, doroing. That's what I'd do, anyway."
"Blood on the concrete...it could have come from Bud. The injury on his head was from a fall, like Cranston said. Concrete's hard enough to do some serious hurting."

"If that's the case, anyone but Bud could have grabbed the knife and given it to him indirectly, and in that case, whoever did that is largely irrelevant to what happened afterwards. Their role in this was that they got the knife to Bud..."
"I think it's time I organized this information into another Scenario."
SCENARIO 2
"Someone stole the knife off the picnic table in the plaza, and used it to cut up Bud's door.
In their haste, they leave the knife behind for Bud to find when he leaves his house.
Fearing attack, he takes the knife and his shovel and either goes out to find the culprit, or to find someone to comfort him.
He meets up with Joe beside the river, and begins to chat with him. At some point, Bud gets spooked and loses his balance, causing the shovel to fall into the river and the knife to fall out of his pocket.
Joe and Bud both fear that the other will kill them if they get ahold of the knife, and fight for it.
Joe accidentally backhands the knife into Bud's eye, and he falls over and hits his head, dying in the process.
Joe goes to find the shovel to hide the bosy, but can't find it in the river. He goes back to his home to try to get his own shovel to bury Bud.
A witness, realizing what Joe intends to do, takes the body away from the scene of the crime, preventing Joe from burying it.
When the coast is clear, the body is dragged back to where it was found, seemingly so that Joe will be rightfully found guilty.
Joe wakes up the next morning to find the body back where he left it when Bud died."
"If this is the case, all we need is for the witness to step forward and say that they saw this and we have a pretty much open and shut case, unless there's any objections?"
