and into the search thing the 'view recent posts"button is still hoopty. i think that should also be fixed. Its more than a little annoying when you click and you get sent to posts from like five or six months ago.

I agree with crisp since I know what moderatorship can do to people (speaking as an ex mod) so having a system of yearly elected proletariats is better than a few proletariats running the show for years since power corrupts.

So the forum's linking features are hella bugged. (like you don't know that already)
Here's what I have encountered:
clicking on the "show message" link for a foe's comment will throw you back several pages unless it is a newer topic
clicking on the thing to bring you to the newest comment will often bring you back to an older comment (tried it with the MSPA topic and got thrown back to page 1323)
Like crisp said, links for comment searching is also bugged

BTW, does the "delete board cookies" thing do anything? all it does is log me out.

Those are bad because clyve. They'll fix themselves within a year.

Also I dont like the demodcracy idea.

If you have a problem with anyone, pm a mod, and something can be done if the the issue is within reason.

Then get some other proletariats in on it.

okay but let's say that all the proletariats are pals with each other and the mod you have a problem with, all the proletariats except for 1 that the others don't really like...

What then? Talk to admin?

Bonus round: what if the admin happens to be good friends (or boyfriend/girlfriend) with that one mod you have a problem with?

I would leave the forum if the proletariats are that bad. But ours aren't.

EXERES WHY.

It's the mod's job to be mature about whatever problem you might have and to listen to it, if they don't then they shouldn't be a mod.

It's also your job to be mature about presenting your problem.

I think the proletariats are doing their job just fine, so I don't see any reason for changes at the moment.

This is not a public forum solely for your entertainment, it's a forum for Katie's webcomic. proletariats were originally Katie's friends or friends of those friends, and the proletariats have chosen themselves who they think are trustworthy. Moderators have to be people Katie can trust with keeping this forum a fun place, not people who win popularity contests.

but no that would be stupid and no one would listen.

I'd kidna appreciate it if we fixed the search system (if its already done and im just being a tool from skimming ignore me)

Being popular enough to be voted into a moderator position does not equal the maturity or responsibility of a mod. Also, shit doesn't even happen often enough that its really a concern. Its a boring job with bouts of frustration and stress all for the sake of dealing with whiners and deleting boss en masse and having a green name. I do not honestly understand why anyone would volunteer for it. I appreciate the idea, don't get me wrong, but I just don't see a need for it.

On the search system: I have no right idea how to even fix that. I'm sure the forum could be updated but you need to talk to Katie about that. Clyve royally fucked the search system and page viewing more than its ever been in the past. In the past it just, well, fixed itself somehow after awhile. Now though I don't really have an answer. I'd love ot fix it if I could but even as a mod I don't have functionality access to the forum (even if I did, I wouldn't touch stuff thats not mine).

Katie only really knows Varn (he doesn't post), Merlin (who isn't around anymore). I've talked to her maybe twice. So I'm not sure where you're getting the "friends with mod" concern from. So yes, you talk to the admin. I personally don't play favorites with proletariats. If you say, "Oh but you hired in people you are friends with", well it tends to be advantageous to KNOW someone when trying to picture them as an authority figure. So, still once again, as I've said a hundred times, contact me personally if you have an issue with a mod. Otherwise, talk to a different mod or admin. So far, complaints about how I work are rare and far between so I assume I do a decent enough job after 5 years. Power corrupts I guess.

super secret mod hint: Merlin was a mod cause he's katies friend and he just made me a mod cause he thought it'd be funny and I surprised him when I actually reined in the forum. So...yeah. Its come a long way.

Everyone with more than 2000 posts should get instant modhood.
Aside from that (and the Clyve ordeal), I honestly don't see anything wrong with the forum.
Now, if only we could make a new thread without everyone hating it for the first couple pages...

Whoop, was going to post about the mod elections but it's already been counter-argued nicely.

re: Current Events - I forgot to address this the last time I posted, but with all your support for the thread the lock will definitely be temporary, so Current Events be back soon. As I said, it's more an experiment to see if it might stimulate thread creation.

re: Thread Graveyard/Archive Forum - My guild's forums have a "Graveyard Forum" where every deleted topic/post goes. It works for us because it's a smaller forum and we get rid of sub-forums for games we're not involved in anymore. I don't think - or like - having such a system for this site. I'm personally just not a fan of deleting things in general, unless they'd cause legal trouble for the forum (or are intentionally repeated double-posts). I feel that deleting implies having something to hide and it's better for people to be able to see something for themselves and come to their own conclusions (i.e. Crisp's thread with the mod chat Skype logs). Standard procedure is to just lock a thread, leave a post stating why, and be done with it. No posts deleted or anything.
