That's not because they're Bioware's fanbase, but because they were rustled off that the story went completely off the rails and flipped them double "fuck you" middle fingers on its way out.

Majority of "golden age" Bioware games are focused on dialogue and character options with mediocre gameplay mechanics. The characters are well voice-acted with multiple dimensions that are nevertheless constant and rigid, never showing dynamism in the face of player-created events. More-so, characters are incredibly quick to open up to the player and reveal personal information about themselves, initiate friendships/romances and generally allow the player to sit back and enjoy the ride. Ancillary to their brittle rigidity they are easily manipulable, requiring only gifts or certain clique phrases to win their support; when a character's personality does change in any way it is starkly marketed in an obvious manner. All of this creates the effect of a virtual friend to the player, which fits perfectly to the average introvert who can no longer understand human social interaction: because the people in the games are rigid, easy to understand and put all the effort into the relationship for you. This is why Bioware fans are usually quite already unstable before they latch themselves onto the series and universes, snowballing their introversion into even more instability until you get people who make home made life-sized sex dolls of characters

To be fair, it's a fanbase of a company whose executive producer and lead writer think it's good to write the ending they want without any second opinion.

It wasn't that Bioware wrote an ending no one liked, it's that they managed to right an ending THAT WASN'T EVEN THERE. Seriously, it was comparable to when The Sopranos just cut to black. Nothing was concluded, it was just "You did this thing, and now more shit happens that eludes to more shit that might happen later." That's what you do when you plan for a 4th game, not end a trilogy. When you end a trilogy, you make the ending where things get wrapped up in a nice little bow of "And then they lived semi-happily ever after." which is something the ending didn't have until they fixed it.

Also before the game came out they spent a lot of time talking about how they're free to make the endings really varied because it's the last game in the series.

A lot of people felt as though they'd been lied to when that was the opposite of what happened.

If you play a game series for the ending, you're going to have a bad time.

Is it really THAT fucking hard to put together an ending that doesnt suck booty? Is there some sort of law that prevents them from spending an extra few bucks on an ending that isnt a 30 second cutscene with a sequel hook?

The main problem is that throughout the series the promise was repeated that your in-game actions have consequences. By making a three-coloured ending, Bioware failed to deliver on that promise. That's worse than poor writing.

I, as a player of Murder Simulator 3000, condemn Catherine as a non-family friendly game.
