Eh, without a 64 bit OS then over 4 is worthless.

Keep in mind a lot of software doesn't do 64 bit and downscaling to 32 on a 64 bit OS costs more processing power.

a lot of 32 bit software can allocate more ram, though. I allocated 8 gigs to 32 bit java, for an example.

Based on the symptoms, can someone corroborate my diagnosis for my computer?

It crashed a few times and stayed dead the third time. It now powers on but the screen stays blank and there's no post beep. Switching to onboard graphics didn't make a difference.

Sounds like RAM or motherboard, right?

Yep. Pretty much means that was the death knell for your computer. It's not coming back.

EDIT: Actually, try plugging a second monitor into your computer. One for your video card plug-in and one for the onboard graphic plug-in. You may have a similar issue as me.

No dice, unless it matters that the second monitor was on HDMI?
What were you thinking it might do?

The way my computer is right now, it's stuck on dual-screen even though it only shows on one screen. So if only one monitor is plugged in it shows nothing. Plug two in and the first now has picture. I've got a second monitor off to the side that does bodaciously nothing. Strangely, it's the one that shows the POST then the screen switches when it reaches the log-in.

HDMI is the same as DVI, with a different shaped plug.

My uncle wants to buy a tablet as a gift for his wife and asked me for advice. She's an architect and she could possibily use it as a portable workstation. One of the features he suggested she could use is taking photos with it and uploading them to her computer for AutoCad, can anyone suggest anything?

Android over iPad, just because there's a lot more variety in the models and freedom with the app store.

A Nexus 7 or Nexus 10, maybe? The Nexus 10 isn't available everywhere yet though.

I heard the 7 has problems loading apps from SD cards, so I'd go for the 10.
