"Pierce and I were snooping around your place," Whitney admitted with a small shrug. "We thought you were acting fishy...but we didn't find anything weird around the area. Except for the pitfall seed outside your door." She gazed at Joe with half-lidded eyes. "You seemed very paranoid about something."

"It was my idea. But the odd thing about it is that we were near your house on the night of the murder, at around the time of the murder, and we didn't see Bud, you, or anyone else out and about."

"I was in my room for most of the night, but after finding no trace of the lockpicks in the house, I went outside. I didn't spend much time out, though...admittedly, I got spooked, so I went back in at midnight."

"Okay then. I was in my room. It could have gone like this: Joe and Bud have a bit of a scuffle around the river. They both leave, and Bud is killed and dragged back to the river, possibly by an observer of the struggle."

"I think the shovel might be a red herring, mrmpht. Plus, Bud's house is pretty far away from Joe's, but that would mean that if Bud was killed at his house, he would have to have been dragged pretty far. Surely someone would have noticed."
