A Canadian Supreme Court decision has wide-ranging implications for free speech online. The Supreme Court of Canada ruled 7-2 that Google has to de-index a website from its search results worldwide. This contributes to the troubling issue of how other countries want to be able to control the flow of information worldwide rather than just in their borders. Congratulations on your contribution to the destruction of the open Internet, Canada.

Martin Shkreli is on trial and they can't find an unbiased jury for him because everyone they try to get onto jury duty already hates his stupid smug fucking face.

You know who ELSE hates his stupid smug fucking face? Katie does.

Trump supporters call for defunding of NPR, feel personally attacked by the Declaration of Independence.

How dare they post two-and-a-half century-old American text on a patriotic holiday. Shame on them.

An article examines the amount of electricity utilized by cryptocurrency mining. The electricity that Bitcoin alone consumes is 27 times that of Visa, a more classic financial company.

Over time, as cryptocurrencies have failed to gain widespread and mainstream usage (even in an age where entrepreneurs come up with tech-based solutions for problems every day) it's become clear to me that the real innovation that cryptocurrencies have creatd and fueled is blockchain technology. The world would be better served if more banks and financial institutions adopted blockchain and there seems to be some forward movement in that area right now.

I think that's slowly starting to change, from what I heard Ethereum is starting to get adopted by bigger tech companies like Spotify. Interesting tidbit, a friend of mine managed to invest in Ethereum a while back and now has a 30k profit (was up to 70k before the recent crash).

Chester Bennington, frontman of Linkin Park, committed suicide by hanging at the age of 41.

Their music was so emblematic of the early 2000s. :(

I can't tell if that's a dig at Linkin Park or at the general idea of the early 00s.

At least the 00's weren't the 80's.
But it is sad, yes. While I listened to their music through middle and high school, and still don't hate it now, I'm not attached enough to the band anymore for it to be...a tangible sadness, I guess? I'm honestly more wondering about his kids and wife, since suicides can make things even more painful for the family than an accident or illness.

I've always been weird emo trash, I'm just better at hiding it. I'm pretty saddened by this, although I haven't followed the band or the members for a long time. I still love In The End, Numb, and What I've Done way more than is healthy. :(
I'll even go so far as to be the cliche and say their music helped me through a lot of shit when I was younger.

I don't think it's far-fetched to say that bands like Linkin Park helped a lot of kids to sort out their feelings. A lot of kids in middle and high school were discovering that the world is not as ideal as they thought it was, that sometimes bad things happen to good people and that there are a lot of rotten people in power pulling the strings. But in middle school and high school, you're not really old enough to DO anything about it. You're stuck in a world that's beginning to show its teeth and you don't have the ability yet to fight back. I think a lot of kids found outlets for their frustration and their anger in "emo" bands, even if they weren't conscious of what they were doing.

I get that riffing on the early 00's and on emo bands in general is the Cool Trendy Thing but I'm getting kind of tired of it.
