This isn't really news, but it is a really interesting thing I have given lots of thought about.

The progress is impressive. It is absolutely amazing. The end of the video even features two humanoid robots teaching each other words that they have created themselves.

Hey guys, I'm looking for some info about a guy who did prospection in a big impact crater because he thought the meteorite was huge and full of ore (it was not). I heard about it a few years ago but I can't find it again. I'd like to use it in the intro of a physics experiment report. I think the crater was near the polar circle or beyond, but I could be wrong.

The crater was in Arizona, or at least a similar crater like it. Similar story about an attempt to mine iron from a meteor impact too.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Meteor_Cra ... _Barringer ? My partner and I skimmed through that article last week but we missed that part. Thanks!

That would be it, I recall visiting it once.

Windy as hell, it was. Don't know if that's relevant at all.

We are trying to determine how velocity affects the diameter of a crater. Barringer's story is a nice intro, because it leads to the question "If the meteor was that small, then how come the crater is so big?". We collected data months ago, but now we have to write a report.

This is pretty interesting:

Anyone know what it is, exactly?

Huh.
That's a pretty cool chemical reaction right there, that's what it is.

Mentos and Diet Coke.

When Menthos and Diet Coke hardens into a foam and releases heat, I am so going to buy a crapton of it.

Sadly, my sources tell me it doesn't.

not chemical, physical. the uneven surface on mentos (on a microscopic scale) catches the carbonation right out of the soda. the rest of the "reaction" is just the CO2 rising to the surface of the cola

I thought that the smoke came from whatever is happening in there being an exothermic reaction, but I might be wrong. And I don't think that's Coke and Mentos, since it seems to turn into a thick foam.

It's a reaction that basically makes industrial foam.
I think one of the things inside was coal, but I can't remember.

oh I'm sorry, yes you're right. that's what I get for watching half the .gif
that's spray insulation. look at any ceiling in a commercial building and you will find it.

I think the chemical reaction would be a polymerisation of the chemical substance that is the brown liquid. The molecules in it are the monomers of the polymer that is the foam.
